I have and FX5 and a wet dry right now on my 100g. I had to take down the wet dry temp to fix the over flow box. When I did this it seemed to make my fish a lot happier maybe to much flow I dont know. The fix will be done in the morning if I do not hook the wetdry back up will I have any issues with my bio filtration?

Personally, one filter on a 100g is too little. I'd recommend getting another filter if you want to take the wet/dry out. Put them at opposite ends of the tank for filtration and circulation.

While you take the wet dry out, put all the media inside the tank to maintain the life of bio bacteria.

Once you are done with all the repairs that you need to do on the wet dry unit, put the media back in it and conenct everything again.

The key point is to keep the media (bio balls, scrubbies, ceramic rings) floating or submerged inside the tank water or else you're killing all the bio bacteria and cause an ammonia spike to your tank.

:o Ah, I read it as he's wanting to discontinue the use of a wet/dry all together. My bad.

I am thinking of getting rid of the wet dry. The FX5 I have is rated for up to 400 gallons shouldnt that be enough filtration. Also with the bio ball if I submerge them in water wont that sufficate the bacteria and kill it?

I also have ceramic rings as part of the media in the FX5

an FX5 would be just enough for a 100, and its better to be overfiltered than to be under.

For the time being I just put my output horse in the input tank so it just recirculating the water in the wet dry but I still want your opinion on if I should keep it or not. I am still having problems with the slime and its puting it back in the tank. My water is cystal clear except for the big pieces of slime ect the wet dry puts back in the tank.

Ah, I did read that correctly. Woohoo! Did you try putting an airstone in the wet/dry to break up the slime? Overall, wet/dry filters are a matter of opinion. If it's not working for you, get another canister. I'd have at least two, regardless of rating. Keeps the water circulating in most areas where one would not. I'm big on water circulation though. I think it keeps the tank cleaner and healthier.

What pump do you have running your wet/dry?

THe water might be moving too slowly causing the slime buildup.
