I just moved from the Amarillo area to Carrollton for my dream job of being a pyrotechnician and special effects coordinator. When I moved down here I closed out my storage shed, which means I had my 55G tank once again staring at me, and well, yeah had to fix that problem. It has probably been six years since I had it setup last. I have kept both freshwater and saltwater, along with reptiles, prairie dogs, coatimundi, and almost ended up with a monkey at one point. Yes, I worked at a pet shop, thus explaining the random animals, though I never really seemed to make any money while working there...
Now I am down to just the 55G tank, which I sat up just a couple of days ago as I finally got some time off from work. I am currently in the process of setting it back up as a planted tank, and will probably be looking at putting a couple of discus in it down the road, just want to get it well established first. I am using about 2" of top soil with about 2" of fine gravel on top as a substrate, and will be purchasing a CO2 system from Glostik tomorrow. At one point I had 4 discus in it for over a year, when the heater decided it wanted the water at about 100F while I was out of town for a couple of days, not a fun thing to come home to and the reason for putting the tank in storage.

Glad to have you in the box! Pyrotechnician...hmmm sounds like a job I would enjoy too.
Let us know what we can do to help. I know some of us could provide some excess java fern, maybe some moss overgrowth or just clippings in general when we're trimming out tanks back to help get you up and running

Welcome to the site and the area!
We understand your problems as a couple of our members have lost entire tanks of fish very recently.
Good to see you giving it another try!

We better keep Amon(Elijah-Turtle) and Tony away from each other, cause God knows what they would come up with! Amon does fire tricks, Tony!

Thank you for the warm welcoming. I picked up the CO2 system from Glostik earlier, nice guy with some great tanks. I can't wait to get the CO2 going, but I am leaving for New Orleans on Saturday, and will be gone for a week, so I will probably hold off on it until after I get back. I will also get some pictures up after I get back.
On another note, it seems that one of the platies that I purchased to cycle my tank with was pregnant, and I now have 12-15 fry swimming around, not what I really wanted as I do not plan on keeping the platies in there.
Will have to see if I can meet Amon sometime, as I always enjoy meeting people with an interest in pyro.
Once again, thank you for the warm welcome.

Welcome to the best fish site on the web! I have only been here for a month or so, and these folks have helped me out tremendously. They are definitly a great bunch of people.
I could probably get my friend to take a few of the platys off your hands for her 55 if you are interested. Let me know.

Hey, if they are still alive in a couple of weeks she can have as many of the little guys as she wants, though I am tempted to keep the couple that I bought, but we will see.
