I tired to get a good picture of him but he's speeding around the tank like he's looking for the door!
He's sounds fugly but he's really pretty and quite an eye catcher. He's Uno's brother and way smaller than her but his colors make her look like sludge.
He has the black Dalmation spots, an orange and transparent tail, an orange belly and iridescent blue, green and purple(?) on his sides. His over all look is dark so you see these colors as he's speeding around. He's really quite impressive but I don't know what he is, lol. I know his momma is the mutant Molly momma we have but I'm not so sure his daddy is the Dalmation that died with a smile on his face.
It looks like she was got by a Platy and the daddy at the same time and this was the result.
Here's the best I could do...he's the little one in the pic

And when the flash hit him...

The big Molly you see is his momma and the other one is another female...no more males except for this little guy and some small fry.

You may have spawned a new type of platy. He's pretty! I can't wait to see pics when he's big enough to chase the ladies!
Congratulations!

Haiven- How cool would that be?! "Big enough" ...he's already pestering the girls, lol. I'd like to see what happened if he got one of the almost all white ones...I'm trying to get rid of all of them though.
Anyway, thank you both!

Thanks everyone! He really is pretty and he's becoming one of my favorites, lol. I got two more of him...one's pretty clear and you can see all the colors, plus some gold sparkles.

so you think hes a molly/platy hybrid??
I do, but only because he has that iridescent blue on him...the only other fish I have with that, are the Platys. Back then I had two male and two female Platys, now I only have the females left. Otherwise, I have no idea.
Thank you everybody...:D

This is a Quote from one of the most trusted individuals on Fishgeek.info...."Those colors all occur on mollies, and I don't see anything about that fish that suggests hybrid. It would help to see what the parent molly looks like, but most likely it's just an odd genetic mixture.
Groups of the two species are likely to keep to their own kind. If it were a single female molly and a single male Platy, I suspect the male might try, but SFAIK* they can't cross because of the structure of the male's gonopodium. And if, by some miracle, they did, I suspect that the fertilized eggs would not be viable due to the extreme genetic differences. So the odds of that fish being a hybrid are astronomical."(KillieKing)
(joel)"Thank you much KK!!! I never doubted y'all about them not hybridizing, I had just never seen that color variation on a molly. The mother was apparently a "mutt" as well so the mixture of her genes and the spotted molly daddy probably created this. Thanks once again everyone for your help!!"
*So far as I know*

Thank you poel!
After you asked if I thought he was a hybrid, I went looking to see if it was possible and I learned that it wasn't.
I'm not as much of an idiot as some are inclined to believe. I just didn't know, and we all have to learn sometime, right? He's still a favorite though, lol.
Thanks again.

As far as I know, here are the livebearers that can hybridize:
Platies and Swordtails = Platails?
Mollies and Guppies = Moppies? Or maybe Gullies? :noidea:
I feel sorry for any female guppy being chased by a male molly....
I think Endler's and Guppies can also hybridize, but I'm not sure about Endler's and Mollies.

Most (if not all) fancy platies and swordtails available commercially are platy-swordtail hybrids so there is no special hybrid name, just strain (or type names).
With mollies and guppies all documented hybrids that I know of have been sterile males. The names I've heard (or read of) for these hybrids are based on whether the the male is a guppy or a molly. If the male is a guppy then it would probably be 'golly' if the male is a molly then it would be 'muppy'. But in either case the offspring would probably all be sterile males.

Misty, I haven't heard a word about Rainbow. How's he doing? Did his siblings turn out as pretty? Any recent pics?

Yep, he's good! Not growing though, he's about an inch big and that seems to be where he's gonna stop. He's even prettier now that his tail is all bright orange instead of transparent orange. He's turned into quite the little stallion too...putting the moves on all the ladies, he ain't partial!:hehe:
I can't believe he's one of the three originals, much less even related to any of them.
His sisters, I regret to say, are the ugliest damn Mollies I have ever seen! I never thought I'd say that about Uno and Dos! They're both a muted yellowish color, with about 5 whitish scales on each side that catch light. They both have plenty of spots but they're mostly big splotchy ones. Both girls are a little over two inches and shaped just like their mom, Fertile Myrtle.
I'll try for some more pics tonight. Maybe I can get one with a sister or two with him.

Here he is. I couldn't get one with a sister. He kept getting on the far side of them like he knows not to get between the glass and them, lol.
I'll describe him a bit for you. He's changed alot, mostly that he doesn't have any light colors anymore. Mostly orange and black but still a great deal of sparkly colors on his sides. His belly is all orange with one streak of black. He never sits still and he loves to pester my dwarf gouramis...basically he's a pretty little turdhead, lol. He can agitate my biggest dwarf to no end and he eventually goes and hides.

Misty, he is awesome looking! All we have to do is find a female that looks like him, and I'm up for some of the babies! That orange tail really makes him pop!

Thank you!
He's the daddy of the last batch, I have no other mature males. There's some dark ones showing up but they're still too little to tell. I'll let you know what happens.
