Has anyone ever kept crayfish with africans. I found a couple of vids online of people who did, but I wasn's sure if this was the norm. I have always wanted one of them, but didn't want to lose a ton of fish.

Its not the norm as they can each each other....but be prepared to have some fish eaten.

I guess it depends on the whole fish to crayfish size ratio to some degree. But typically, if a crawdad can grab it, he'll eat it!

I don't want to lose any fish so I think I'll pass on getting the crayfish. Thank you for the information.

I kept a blue lobster with my africans A LONG time ago....

I had a couple of fish get nipped pretty good...
but ultimately the africans will kill it when it sheds its shell to grow.

I put a young one only a couple of inches long in my 55 with my mixed Africans. I did this because I did not have enough cover in the 10 the mother was in, and she killed and ate the other young one I had. In a panic, I just put him in there. So far, it is surviving, and oddly sharing a hide with a Krib fry that is too fast for him. He is too slow, even to catch my BN's, but I know it is just a matter of time before they get him. Thought about putting the female in my 50, she would be too slow to eat the big ones, but too big for my labs and Kenyii to eat, and hopefully would help keep the fry down in that tank. What are y'all's thoughts on this?

the crawfish will defend itself as much as possible...
but both the ones that I've had with Africans ended up in a crawfish boil....
if you know what i mean.

Yeah, I have a boss hog Kenyii that would aggravate him until he/she died. He is either fighting or breeding! Sounds like some men I know(at least the breeding part, lol!)!

I keep them in my tank. They keep the sand very very clean. They dont mess with my fish very much. I had a smaller one in a 30g and he ate a lot of my fish. I put him into a larger tank and he left them alone but when he molted the Fronts ate him.

Can one tell when they are about to molt? From what I remember, it is like they start popping open at the seams. My memory is like everything else of mine, worn out and near useless, lol!

i have no idea what kind it is actually. i found it at petco on garland ave. by pet boutique. in the addoption tank. they said who ever had it before it used to eat their fish. but its good now it keeps to its self. its about 5 inches now and my bunas are all about the same. except for my 2 labs 1 is 3" and the other is 4". i know its not a crawfish cuz its claws are skiny and blue. a lady at p.b said it might be one like a ghost shrimp that someone had just fed alot. they have them in their tank the ghosts are all clear and the others have strips. atleast thats what she told me.

Does anyone know the best way to introduce a male and female for mating? I think someone posted here that there will be a flash of color change on the female, but is there any other way to know they are ready? I am wanting to put my male in my 55, but want him to breed first. He just acts so lonely and bored in the 10 gal.
