I have found a 55 gallon with a stand for $100. I've talked to the guy and he says it has no leaks and comes with everything I need to get it up and going.
I am supposed to go look at it later this afternoon. Is there anything I need to be sure to check out, other than the obvious no cracks in the glass?
I'm hoping its good, since my husband will have a fit about me driving to Richardson to get it, but I want to make sure it really is a good deal.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have them fill it before you get there or when you are there.

look CLOSELY for scratches- they'll drive you nuts down the road...but discount that with the good price you're getting.

Ok, I've talked to the guy and he's going to get it filled for me.
Unless they are bad, I don't know that a few scratches will bother me too much, especially at the price. Major ones would. My other tanks seem to constantly have fingerprints on them, so maybe fingerprints will help hide scratches. Haha.

I'm supposed to be over there at 4, so hopefully it will work out. I had to promise my husband, I wouldn't bring home any more tanks for a LONG time after this.

If you're anything like my wife- you'll forget you "promised any such non-sense" :confuzeld:

Well it takes a long time to cycle a tank..
I figure once this one is cycled, then you can get another.
Right??

Just keep on bring in tanks until they threaten divorce, then go to counseling and complain that it is wasting time that you could be doing water changes. I speak from experience, at some point they will except or "hey" if you do get divorced you can have as many tanks as you want.

My wife wouldn't divorce me... she'd just make my life living hell for the next 50 years...

Oh and she said she pour a gallon of bleach in each of my tanks if I brought another one home...

and she wasn't kidding.:bslap:

Good luck on the purchase! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who "converted" my other half to enjoying the hobby. He's really enjoying them, but not to the point of doing the water changes. Dammit!

she understand MTS though and know me.

I'd put a 8' tank on every wall of the house if I could...or if she'd let me...

Been there done that, don't ever want to do it again.

Seriously, he likes fish. He just doesn't like spending money. He already told me he wants a freshwater eel. But if we have to spend money for it he will change his mind.
He told me that this was an obsession. I told him that "Yes it is, and it has a name but not a cure" And now you guys tell me there is one. I'll have to hide all the bleach.
He kind of freaked last night when I told him what I wanted to do with one of our bathrooms. I want to do a whole fish theme including a huge fish tank in one of the walls. I don't think I'll ever convince him on that one.

But I did get the tank. No leaks and no major scratches. It does need a good cleaning, but hey for the price I can spare some elbow grease. The guy even used the little scrubbie thing that came with the tank to show me that it would come clean. So now I just have to get it clean and set up, then I get to figure out what fish I want in it.

Big congrats on the new tank!!!

Fish theme in the bathroom with a tank in the wall is a great idea, but look at this :D...

That would be awesome in a fish theme bathroom.

Andrew--that may work even better. He hates it when I start tearing up walls. I had to drill a hole through a wall to run cords for one tank and he was none too impressed when he found out. I like that sink though.

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering what would be safe to use. I didn't really want to use chemicals-didn't figure it would be good later when I start adding fish.

Not heard of that before, is it safe?

Vinegar is the preferred cleaning agent for tanks. It does a great job for cleaning the front glass and with out the fear of getting a foreign chemical that is harmful to the fish.

Use vinegar and save the grease for things other than your elbow. :hehe:
