View Full Version : Are they eating off of it?

We're up to 24 babies...22 something or others and 2 Rubies. I have them all in the same bnet with a nice big tangle of Java Moss. Momma Ruby still has more, I guess these two made a run for it when she yawned or something.
The JM was in the snail tank for months but there wasn't alot of algae growth (next to none because of the snails), but who knows what might be on it.
My question is...are they finding anything to eat off of the JM or should I be tossing something in there for them?
Thanks

Fry and especially cichlid fry are outta my league, but I know for some other types of fry folks use "green water" and seasoned sponge filters to feed fry.
I don't know if that applies here, but hopefully someone will chime in with more experience than I ;).
BBS (baby brine shrimp) come to mind too.

They'll eat powderized flakes. Just crush them into tiny pieces between your fingers.

I get that liquid food by Wardley. Can't think of the name of it. It is in a little squeeze bottle. I like it because it is easier to feed than crushed flakes. You just shake it good and squeeze it in the tank. BBS is good too, but I find the liquid food convenient until they get a little bigger.

I did the crushed flakes for guppie fry not too long ago with good luck.
Never heard of liquid fry food. I'll definitely have to try that next time (I had my blue three spot gouramis hatch the other day and I wasn't prepared for 'em :( heck didn't even know there were eggs in the bubble nest until the day before during the water change)

oh no sorry to hear that Andrew! you will have another try. Yea I really liked the liquid food. My fry seemed to grow fast on it and its super easy to feed. I found the name, it is called Small Fry liquid fry food by Wardley.

Thanks everyone! I ground up some flakes for them and they came to the top and started eating. I hadn't seen many at a time since I put them in there because of the JM but we still have most, if not all, of them.:D
That's what I raised the Guppies and Mollies on...don't know why I didn't think about it with these guys.
Momma Ruby is eating again so I think two will be all I'm getting. I looked under rocks, expecting to see at least a few more babies...nope, just the two.
I've tried that liquid food before and I didn't like they way it filmed up the top of the water in the bnet and sat there.
Anyways, thanks again!

It's pretty good stuff. It's got BBS in it, but mostly it's egg yolk, protien & other good stuff.

Yeah that's what I used for my first batch of fry along with live BBS, then I went to Hikari First Bites fry food supplemented with live BBS since Petsmart near my job quit carrying the Liquid Food.
What I did like about the Liquid food was being able to mix it in a syringe with some a little tank water & being able to target feed the fry when I was trying to parent raise them in the my display tank.

I found my tube of this stuff. It looks like this:
http://www.petfish.net/pix/p-rev/wardley_lff_KimmyM.jpg
Wardley Premium Small Fry (for all baby fish)
INGREDIENTS:
Water, Egg Product, Yeast Extract, Citric Acid, Freeze-Dried Calanoid Copepods, Vitamin A , Natural & Artificial Flavor along with some kind of gum & some preservatives.
They also make Wardley Essentials Small Fry It's probably about the same thing.

I'm glad you posted pics... the kind I had was in a longer tube, maybe a foil one that you can roll up??
Maybe I will try it if the crushed flakes don't work but I can see they've grown so I guess the flakes are working...for now.
