she spit early :/

sucks I isolated my female socli into a 10g tank and after about 6 days I checked on her to see if they were hatching or not yet and she spit about 8 eggs. :mad:

It is her 1st pregnancy though. I checked this morning and she hasn't picked the eggs back up but shes still looks like shes got a mouthful. Anyone know about how many they usually hold?

well I've heard that some africans will spit un fertilized or dead eggs.

once she has spit, she will not pick them back up.

I've got one that has been holding for three weeks. This is her first and hopefully she knows to spit them. Poor thing looks like she has the mumps. Attempts to catch her have been fustrating, at best, so nature will have to prevail.

the only way that I can catch any of my africans is with a trap or by draining the tank to a couple of inches of water.

If it's been 3 weeks, she need to be stripped.

What kind of trap do you use?

I think if I had a conventional tank, it would be easier to catch her. Not so easy in a 4 x 3 x 2 tank. Hubby and I are too slow and old and she's too young and fast!

The guy at JFP suggested a hook and swears that's how he's caught fish out of tanks! :eek: Several redneck jokes ran through my mind when he was telling us that. lol

I guess my fish are just stupid/lazy I never have a problem catching them in my nets. I never have to drain water or move rocks.

Having three nets helps alot tho haha. I just move really really slow as not to scare them and they swim right into the net.

I made a fish trap today from a two liter bottle and got limited success. The fish I have been wanting to catch didn't go in it, but another fish I needed to catch did, along with others I didn't need to catch at all. Didn't have it baited either. They were just nosey and wanted to check it out. Hopefully I'll have better luck tomorrow.

Update: I just stripped them from her. still look like they have a little bit of their egg sacs left but there is a ton of them... I'm currently moving my stuff around to make room for them. Ill post pictures here in a little while
