In order to combat the recent Spam PM's and the Hit and Run for sale posters, I have added a new feature.
In order for someone to create a new thread in the Fish Monger section, they must have a minimum of 20 posts. Anyone will still be able to respond to your's or others threads, just not start their own. So sellers be aware.
Also in the same feature, a user must have 10 posts in order to use the PM feature. If they don't meet the 10 post requirement, they will only be able to PM the staff in event of a problem.
This does 2 things, the last Spammer we had was PM specific. They had no posts and sent over 150 pm's. This won't happen again without making 10 posts, which by then we should be able to pick them out. It also encourages new members to join in and be active in the forum to use all the features of the site.

For the people that are trying to up their post count just to PM or to sell. Please make it worth while, don't pick out 10 random threads and say "yeah cool" "that's neat""bump" or "x2". Add some knowledge, ask a real question, get involved. If you are just here to PM or sell, it becomes quite obvious to us. Especially when your 10 posts are back to back, we aren't asking for alot out of you. If you can't do that I guess we could always just up the number to 20 for the PM's too....

That depends entirely on what they were doing IN the closet :confuzeld:
Some of them can just stay there :wha:

Private message - like an email but site specific. Look in the upper right hand corner.

A PM is a private message. You may send PMs to other members after you have made 10 posts in areas other than the for sale section or the sump. HTH!! (hope this helps)

TxMartin,
Post meaningful replies or messages in areas of interest. Trust me, you'll get there soon.
Note: As stated above, posts in the For Sale & The Sump forums do not increase your post count. In addition, it may occasionally take a few hours or days for posts to register in the count box.
Jim

We understand it might a bit frustrating at first, we have a 10 post minimum before our PM system is available to new members. This helps us keep SPAMMERS off the site and from our PM boxes from being filled with junk we didn't as for or want.
We also have a 20 post count limit on our for sale section for new members because we have a simple phylosophy, we want the members to get to "know" each other before money is involved. There are websites dedicated to the resale of used fish equipment and live stock. We are a local community for support and help, not a new Craigs List.
Hope that helps explain our reasonings and feel free to ask for more explanation if you need. We are very open about our guidlines and rules :).
Welcome to the site, we hope you love it as much as all us other fish nerds do :hehe:

Most of the time I say verry little, only when I can help or need help do I open my mouth. I have been keeping fish for over fourty years and have owned my own shop twice. I enjoy the posts here and am begining to know a few of the members, thanks for being here.
