Mike, Donna, and Jessica
It was great to meet you Monday. I'm glad to hear Simon is doing well. I hope he is just as much of a gentleman to your little lady as he was to Babs! The Mollies are tough little fish - they can adapt to just about anything. I'll have to tell you the story someday about when we left my mother in charge of the fish for 2 weeks and returned to pitch black water. Almost all the Mollies survived.

The pearlscales are doing great! Two of them have paired up together and are the most obsessive stressy parents you've ever seen. We have yet to get the eggs past wiggler stage - they all seem to turn white and die. :( They've been spawning every week or so and have a batch of eggs down right now. Maybe this will be the time we succeed - they're certainly trying hard enough!

Our 3rd gold seems to be paired up with one of our blue blushers. We haven't seen them spawn yet, and I have no idea what the babies would look like from them.

What gender is your marble angel?

I'm sorry I didn't post on here sooner. Simon has a happy home now where I am sure he will be well spoiled. :) Thank you for offering, though!

I'm glad to hear that they are doing well. It's possible that your pH is a little high for the eggs. If the pH is to high the eggs will have a thicker casing & it's more difficult for them to be fertilized & the ones that are tend to have difficulty hatching. Are you parent raising them or are you trying to pull them & hatch artificially?

The marble angel I have is a male, he's probably 6" from tip to tip on the fins. He has tried to pair with my GPS female but she hates his guts. she won't leave her beau for anything.

Here's a pic of a Blushing Pearscale at the Angelfish society:

We're parent raising. We don't really have the time or resources for pulling them, and the golds are so obsessive about their eggs, they'd probably jump out of the tank and come after us if we tried to take their babies! I'll check the pH and see if that's part of the problem. It may just be that they're still too young. I'm guessing that they're only about a year old, maybe a little less. (Do you remember when they hatched?)

Too bad your marble is a male - we have a surplus of males, even after getting rid of 4. Dunno why male angels seem twice as common. :(

I think they were about 1.5 months months old when I gave them to you. That would have been The end of June to early July since we moved at the end of July. So they aren't quite a year old yet. I would have to check lamebox for the old posts to see when the actual birthday is.

OK I found an actual date. I think they hatched about May 16th. Had to look at my old Xanga blogs to find out when.

Thanks for all the info, Amon! :)

It's official, by the way: the 3rd gold pearlscale just spawned with my blue blusher, so they're definitely a pair. I need to come up with a name for him now. Her name is Babylon ("Babs"). Any ideas?

jaglover, Simon and the mollies are still doing great (they are all very bossy about feeding). We have the tank right as you walk into the living room (from either the front of the house or down the stairs), and every time anyone walks by all of the fish think (demand) to be fed.
