Def a texas spiney softshell. Females grow to around 18" males grow to 8". They are mean usually and cannot live with any other tank mates.

if the tank mates are big enough then they will be OK, I saw one at Cabela's on I35W in a 10,000G tank with gar, basses and some other fish! there are also 2 other (might be 2 big female) in the 35k gallon tank with the huge fish!

I know from experience. I currently still have an adult male. I doubt anyone has a 10,000 or 36,000g tank to house. It is always best to er on the side of caution. I was able to keep 2f and the male together, but trust me with alot of issues, this is the reason I got rid of the two females. They would attack ea other regularly even in a 180g tank.

well, at cabella's they have the two in the 35k gallon tank with 2 huge flathead (they are about 80-90lbs), 4 blue cat (from 50-80 lbs), 3 gator gar (about 5ft long and weight around 80 lbs), 1 long nose gar (near 5 ft long), some channel cat, some red ears slider and a lot of bass. They (the soft shell turtle) seem usually hide under the logs.
your 180G is too small to house two female nor keeping any fish that big enough to live with them. I think you need at least 1000G!

First off I'm not sure you properly read my post. I speak from experience. I got my first soft shell turtle at 11yrs old. My male I currently have lives in a 75. The water stays sparkling clean. Regardless of size they will nip at the other tank inhabitants. Also you keep refering to what you have seen in cabellas's tanks which every time I have seen them were in horrendous conditions. Also soft shell turtles are primarily nocturnal which would be the reason they always are "hiding" under a log. Funny thing is the two females still live in my old 180 gal at their new home. No it is not the same as them being in a natural wild enclosure but they have flourished under these conditions(no eye infections, shell rot, or shell curl which are the most common issues). They still nip each other occasionally. I try to relay proper info on this guy and you want to try to debate and tell me I don't know how to care for them. It really doesn't matter. I just hope my advise is heeded and caution is used. Soft shells have also always been one of my favorite turtles. Congrats on your new shelly friend Sigmar.

Thanks for sending a message to Tanya. She's going to pick him up and give him a good home.
... and yes, the poor guy only has three feet, not that he's three feet long.
