I saw this guy in a pond about a month and a half ago. My friend I was fishing with actually thought it was a koi, but when it got closer I could see it was a Midas. I guess some one released him in the pond because he got too big and no pet stores would take him.

I started going to the pond 2-3 times a week trying to catch him before it got too cold and he died. Last Friday I took off, and decide I was going to spend the whole day down there if I had too. I spooked with my first cast with my fly rod. I was like great that is going to set me back an hour. Then he circled around to chase a turtle off. I dropped the fly just right and caught him. He barely fit in my transport cooler.

He is now home in my 150 by himself. He started beating the glass like 30 mins after being release into the tank. He is the biggest Midas I have ever seen.

I tried a cast net, but the water is really clear. He could see it in the air, and would dodge it every time. And he wouldn't come back in range after I missed. He would just sit out there staring at me That's why I decided to use my Texas Cichlid fly.

Sorry, that is before he dies. Midas have a hard time living in water below 70. The ponds are getting to that temp fast.
