Can a dwarf puffer(freshwater variety) be kept with amano shrimp? I'm thinkin of popping one in my 55 Gal to clear out the snail infestation and I would would move it into it's own tank once the job is done. Is this ok or just a really stupid idea?

I would say the amano would become lunch but I kept 2 green spot puffers with a small marbled craw just fine.

i agree with Blayne, the puffer will eat the shrimp first and then the snails

Could you put the Amanos in another tank for a week or two and let the puffer eat snails, then move everyone back to the original tanks?

puffer only nip fins when it is hungry, they just don't nip fins for the hell of it. when you buy them from a LFS they are staved so they will nip anything in site. Most LFS will not take the time to feed them proper or they don't know how. Mine are feed so well with blood worms ETC they realy don't eat snails they like to hunt them down and just kill them after they eat the head off lol, Now that is pea puffer can't say what a spotted green or figure 8 or bigger will do

my GSP doesn't bother his mollie tank mate, but I wouldn't recommend shrimp. Of course, mine eats from my hand and is a pig so I don't trust him with delicate creatures :). Does do a heckuva number on whatever snail I put in there for him.
