Is there going to be one? That was one the biggest things that got me over to that other place when I was looking around. There is not really a good place to see the LFS, I know there are a couple sites that have list but for the most part there are not really any opinions on the stores and that could be helpful for people.

Yeah we do need that one!! Cause I like to see what people say before driving the LONG DISTANCE!! And customer service seals the deal for me!

Hmmm interesting... let us work on putting something together and we'll let you know what we come up with.

What does that mean? I am curious now....

My reply?
Means, GREAT IDEA, but it's gonna take some time for us three to sit down and figure out how we want to handle this. Cuz this also brings up another topic we've already been talking about and we'll probably incorporate the two.

Ok, I was thinking along the lines of you did not want to do it. I could see it being a touchy subject with some of the stores. I was just curious what the thought process was. Different from my obviously. I will wait and see….

Yeah, definitely a touchy subject that we'll need to take our time setting up (so that it's done right the first time ;))

That's cool.... I was gonna give Just for Pets some kudos but no where to do it....

I went by today at lunch. Talked to them about crayfish.... and got some of those Tiger Skrimps....
poel_19
09-05-2007, 03:05 PM
now I didn't read everything on those tiger skrimps, but are they ammano's with a color variation, or are they a entirely different species unto themselves??

do you want the same answer I gve you yesterday- or would you like a different one? :hehe:
They're entirely different.
I dig mine too Blake- I got 8 and didn't get near enough. I plan on goin back and getting more. But I also told him to feel free to try other skrimp- I'd buy em.
I also told him about the small crawfish for you (yesterday)- he said he'd bring em in with my jumbos. If you want to try a small one, I have one from a previous order you can have. and I can give you Curtis $$. ;)
Did you tell him who you were? Did he connect the dots? Like I said- I love havin them in my backyard.

Same one from yesterday will be fine my good man:moon:

I think they connected the dots. Actually I mentioned he had got them for you.... Now I know why they are going to be there so quick. He said he would email when they come in....
I got 5 he told me I should get more.... Christine likes the Cherry Shrimp....might have to look into those as well....seems like I have read something about them I did not like.... May have to go back and get a few more of the Tigers....
I am interested if the Gobies will kill a crayfish.... They will end a Ghost Shrimp like nobodies business....Not that I am into the violent fish tank but was really surprised when a fish half an inch long killed a big ghost skrimp.

how big are those dwarf crayfish??
biggin
09-05-2007, 03:27 PM
Roughly the size of a Ghost Shrimp

09-05-2007, 03:28 PM
I do not think they are dwarf as much as they are baby...

ahh makes more sense then

I have seen dwarf crayfish going for $10-$15 each.... a little expensive for food.
poel_19
09-05-2007, 04:00 PM
wow!!! thats alot for food and your feeding these guys to your puffs??
biggin
09-05-2007, 04:08 PM
No, that is what I have seen dwarfs going for... my puffers get cheap food, free snails when I can snag them, ghost shrimp form time to time, blood worms....etc....

What's the price on the Cherry Shrimp? I bought 7 males the other day and looking to get some females to add to the tank.

I don’t think they have any.... I was speaking as a future purchase. Sorry for the confusion.
Blake- I have plenty of snails again- let me know and I'll pull em for ya.
The baby crawfish will be about a dollar I bet.
I mentioned to Cahn that I, for one, am interested in more shrimp and different varieties- he said he'd bring some others in. He's been leary of ordering em b/c of their potential small size. I'll let him decide and buy when I see em. But I feel obligated since I said "bring it!" So I will buy a few. I did get 4 more and put them in my tank. I really want a variety of cool things to look at in that tank.

I will take the snails whenever you are ready to pull them. Maybe Sunday if you have time, I know you are going to be busy so if not no biggie? I think the last batch is starting to make new snails....from time to time we will see a few small snails....and it seems like the population is not just disappearing so that is a good sign. Maybe one more batch will get me on my way to snail freedom....
About $1 is what I was expecting for the little crawfish....I would be interested in some different shrimp as well.... just afraid of getting one who gets too big.... puffer would be happy though. I have not told Christine about the Tigers I am a little afraid she will feed a couple to the puffer tomorrow....need to leave a note.
I forgot I was going to say I was impressed with Just for Pets prices....sure you can find it cheaper on the WWW but they were right inline with the higher volume places like Petsmart....I was a little surprised.
For the size of the shop- I'm amazed at their prices.
I'm gunna be pissed if they ever close due to lack of $$ inflow- I'd pay more for most of what I buy there. :)

They have the best peacocks (color and size) for the price that I have seen in the metroplex, if they don't have what you want let them know and they will get it for you. This way you don't need to pay the high cost of shipping.:D
We will open the retailers section as soon as I write the rules- sorry, I'm so swamped right now. But we will have a review secion ans well as an advertising section. But I want the rules of usage to be CRYSTAL CLEAR. This ain't no Dallasfishbox with ads all over the place and whatnot.

I will agree with these guys on Just for Pets look at the pics of my tank the 2 prettiest fish came from there and I payed way less for those that the $50 red empress $40 red shoulder that I got from other stores and does not look half as good as what I got from Cahn. You can find comparible fish at DNA for $70 Cahn 1/3 of that price. I dont know that I will go anywhere else from here on out when it comes to peacocks.

so why haven't we got one yet? :blahblah:
We agreed not to create a specific location. I spoke to the genius behind dfwmas and after what we saw at the other site- we decided not to.
- comments about fish shops can be found scattered through out the forum. To put it in one place would invite negative posts and then they'd be stuck for good. Flaming a shop without any basis is not cool. The first Keller Farms thread wasn't very cool. It's not fair to the store that those stay stuck for all to see forever- it's better for them to disappear over time. not cause we'll delete/move them- but b/c they'll run their course and disappear with time.
Comments that are fresh are the best. They can be found at the top of a forum b/c people are talking about them.
Feel free to make a thread about a shop and rant ill- or rave positive all you like.
We will also take a hard line towards newbies showing up and ranting about a shop- especially if it's a crap post like the one that created a different user name to bitch about his/her ammonia problem and it being the LFS's fault. That was crap! That's what we want to avoid.

otay, what ever you say boss man.
I'm just another guy like you- I've just done some evaluation of what others have to say and tried to impliment it. We are always open to opposition and hearing what the community wants. ;)

I see benefits and drawbacks to having it. I do not think the positive of having it will out weigh the negatives.
I think for all parties it is better to give one-off opinions here and there and not have once section devoted to it.
Lord knows I have a few positive things to say about my buddies over at Just For Pets!! If there were such a section devoted to retailer feedback- that Just For Pets post would stay lit up like a Christmas tree!! :D

Where is Just for Pets? I've seen it mentioned lots of times on here and it's always good things. I DO NOT like the pet stores here in Denton, they're not very helpful/knowledgeable and way too many dead fish in all their tanks. Rift to Reef in Lewisville was awesome, thanks to Gary (txfront) for telling me about it. I also liked Dallas North Aquarium at Trinity Mills and PGBT but it's a bit of a drive. So, where is Just for Pets and does anyone have any other recommendations? Or should I wait until y'all get an LFS Review Section set up?

If you think DNA (Dallas North Aquarium) is a drive Just for Pets is 15-20 minutes further... Beltline and Coit.
I agree with you on the Denton fish stores I have not been overly impressed with them.
Keller Farms (Ft. Worth) is really neat, USA Aquarium(Allen? 75 and Spring Creek) is different and pretty interesting. There are others, just depends on how far you want to drive.

Oh I don't mind driving if it's gonna be worth the trip, ya know? I've decided I'm definitely not going back to any Denton stores and I was pretty impressed with Rift to Reef. I actually liked one place here in Denton called Fish Man's, but they closed down, and now one of the guys that worked there is at Rift to Reef. But I'm always open to suggestions.

It all depends on what you are looking for.... Just for Pets you will not find your typical mollies, tetras and other fish that are very common in Petco or Petsmart. Their selection is not as wide as DNA but the fish are healthy and the people who work there actually know what they are talking about or they will look it up for you (right then)....
Keller Farms has ummmm everything.... Sorta falling off here lately but well worth the drive just to see some different things and a different store.
USA Aquarium has cheap equipment and a few things you will not find anywhere else. The fish selection is sparse but quite a few tanks. I have never bought fish from them so I can not speak to the health, but from looking you see some sick or dead but not too many.
New store down south True Percula (sp?) pretty nice, but new, I would rate it size and number of tanks up with DNA but their prices are better.
Saturday I will be going to a few shops on the south side of the metroplex and Ft. Worth.

It's worth it, tack on an extra 25 minutes to your drive. That is what I am making to get there and I have made special trips to go there.
