View Full Version : Bubble Nest Frenzy

So all my male short-tailed HMPKs I ordered from Vietnam came in all in superb health. I transferred them into their separate condos already and I'm noticing each and everyone of them are making huge bubble nests, even some towering about the water a few centimeters.
Another thing, I use long skinny tweezers to hand feed them frozen blood worms each day and it seems they have this thing about jumping to get there food before I can try to pass lunch to them.
What's with the aggression and does anyone else have this problem or is it even considered being a problem.
I'm a NEW Betta Addict and I'm not too sure if this behavior is a good or bad thing.
Would greatly appreciate any response.

Mine all jump for blood worms when I put the worm on a toothpick and hold above the water. They leap for the blood worms like flying sharks from Africa on shark week. :D
I do that to my betta too. I think it's cool! :) any picture of your bettas?

I've had other bettas but they weren't as feisty as these. One even jumped up and took a nibble out of my thumb trying to aim for the blood worms.
I guess I wasn't expecting such strong and in well health bettas coming in the mail from overseas. Good to know it's in the norm.
Thanks.

I dangle bloodworms from a pipette on a syringe for mine. ALL my fish rush up and start yanking them out of it when they see it reach the water. Fun stuff :D

Yeah I a have a few pics on my albums. but have yet to upload my line of new shipment I received. Soon my friend soon.
They're darting in their 1gal condos making mountain high bubble nests and flaring at me every chance they get. I woke up this morning and walked right past them to turn around to the sound of some of them knocking through the glass to try to get at me. Yes. Pretty cool. I'm going to have to start getting use to it.
In the process of making a exercise tub for my babies to induce good health and exercise for them. Stopping by to get the water pressure after work today.

Teaching them to jump for food is not a good idea. PK are fighters. That is what they are breed for. In shows, if they don't show that aggression, they don't place very well.

If my stating my bettas go air born like the sharks in africa over blood worms sounded real, I was saying he pops his head above water to snag a bite. hes not for competition anyways. I really liked the white one I think it was anbu that had one on here for sale. Who bought that? :D

Betta are carnivore, so I'd stay away from most flake foods. I like Atisons Betta Pro, but it is really hard to find. Petco has a brand (forgive) Nutra?. It is just as good but Atisons floats even when water logged...this stuff sinks quickly. When I feed it, I have to feed 1 pellet at a time.
Edit:
I didn't mean to be rude about the feed/jumping thing. I though it was cute that my girls actually became airborne for food....that is until I found 3 of them on the floor one morning :(....it was actually 4 of them but I didn't find the last one until we moved offices here at work. They were in the 55g I have here at work.

Can someone please tell me when's the best time to take out male betta after spawning?
Spawning was done just last friday and I took the female out friday as well. The male is doing a great job at taking care of the frys. The frys are now 3 days old I assume. Looks to ne they will start free swimming sometime tomorrow. So when do I take out the male?
It's best to take the male out when the fries are free swimming

How long can the betta fry grow up together after you've removed the parents before the males begin fighting each others?
they can live up more than 3 months together... then start jarring the aggressive ones.

Cure....I sent you an email. I hope you got it. I hope you can make it to the Lone Star Bettas meeting. It is in Arlington.
I like to leave the male in for about a week or more(unless he is an egg eater). I feel that he teaches the fry what is food. I've done both ways, and I have found that the fry left with their father for over a week (actually they were about 2.5 to 3 weeks old) started eating pelleted foods faster.
As far as jarring fry...I jar when I notice one is REALLY big, Jar him, then the next biggest and so on. I don't wait until 3 months old...that is about the age they will be shown and i don't want nipped fins. Usually start jarring at 4 to 6 weeks. I try and leave females together unless I see a female that is REALLY nice.

When is the Lone Star Betta Club meeting and where? I'd like to juggle things around to make it if I can.
