My goldfish has a lump on her left side. I think this growth is from a parasite, and would appreciate any advice on what it could possibly be, and how I can effectively treat it.

We noticed the lump 2 days ago. It is slightly larger presently than the pictures I have posted on flickr.

My tank is currently 76 deg, usually stays at 78. I have three other golds and a plecosthemus in a 30 gall tank. My filter is an Emperor 280 (behind tank with a bio wheel.) I did a 10% water change and after noticing the lump. The water was high in Nitrates, so I added bacteria, and the water also had a high hardness factor. (No change was made for this - yet). Please reply with any advice on how I can save my fish!!

I'm going to move this to the problems and mishaps section for more exposure. :)

" it had a big round sore on one side and some of the white scales were pink underneath! The sore looked clean"

"The fish sounds like it has septicemia. You can treat him with salt and Melafix if it's a mild case, you will need a stronger med if it's an advanced case. Try the salt for a few days (make sure he has excellent water quality) and see. If the wound doesn't start to heal, you may need to make a trip to the store for an external antibiotic."

Hope that helps.
