Been on the list for about a month, and thought I should introduce myself & Matt (Son). He changed colleges and is staying home while going to UTA. Have had aquariums on/off for yrs. The 40gal was empty for about 5 yrs, well we decided to start it back up. I am going thru a nasty divorce, so I needed a nice distraction. Set up the 40. with your basic Guppies, platies, and Sailfin Mollies. Then saw ReyRey's Koi Angels, and I was hooked- had them as a kid. Found out about the fish box from Misty- Thanks.:) Met Rey, and brought home 14 babies- figuring a few would die, Nope all 14 are getting big, and are fun to watch. So Matt (son) had them all in a 10 gal tank on his dresser, well another 10g fit perfect on same dresser. Ok, so now split up the angels. But some in Mom's 40g. Then he finds a CL ad for a 30g Tall Eclipse Tank, and we go out and get it that night. Now he wants to do this as a plant tank due to the higher light. So in about a month we go from 1 tank to 4 tanks, and the one in the garage that is the experimental one trying to accilimate the pond plants to indoor lighting. This is a blooming obsession. And still looking for a 75 or 55.
My sister came over, and we were talking substrates, holeyrock, cichlids. filteration, etc. She thought we were nuts- told me to go get a goat. LOL
I don't need another animal that makes noise. 3 dogs, and all the work for show keeps me busy, my fish are relaxing. So glad to meet a great bunch of people. Looking forward to meeting everyone this weekend. Just started up the tall tank, and hopefully can find some soilmaster select and substrate to get plants in it. Reading alot on the net about what to use.

Wow....built up the collection quick! Soilmaster select is something you can get real cheap at Lesco. I ordered from the one in Plano so I know they still have a whole pallet left. Welcome to the box and we are glad to have you. Post us some pics soon.

Indeed welcome to da box.

Sounds like you're well on your way to being a certified fish nerd like the rest of us :hehe:.

I would highly recommend Soilmaster Select, which is no longer being manufacturered (but that doesn't mean you can't still purchase it)and is being replaced with Turface Gamesaver which to my understanding it the same thing. I have the charcoal version (of SMS) in my tank and have also seen prictures of the red which doesn't look too bad.

I have access to both and will picking up some charcoal later this week if anyone else needs some let me know and I'll bring it to the G2G ;)
