Wheres the best place to get a good deal on bulkheads? My local hardware store has them for 20-30 bucks each.

John Nicholson made all his out of pvc and has had no problems with it. Just have to be sure and get the right gasket material. The finished product works on the same principals

Well Stan Sumirat used ALL sch 80 on all his tanks and to this day never had ANY problem with any of them :D LOL

I like SCH 80 because:

1. Thicker, it's almost impossible to overtighten them. Think of Sch 10 PVC and Sch 40.

2. Sch 80 have a hex on the outer flange, you can HOLD on to the hex while you tigthen the nut. Anyone that have to tighten a bulkhead in a tight place will appreciate this

3. Their mounting lip is larger, creating better seal overall...

Again just my preference, I'd rather spend an extra 40-50 bucks and not have to deal with it again LOL..trying to re-tigthen a bulkhead and draining 600 gallon of water to do so is a pain in the ass.

I bought mine from true percula, I braced myself and my wallet and walked out spending 8$ each. they keep them behind the counter

$8 each is really not bad, that price seems very fair.

I was shocked myself. I figured might as well go in and see how bad it would be and was suprised.

They have them at Elliotts I just don't remember what the cost was for them. They usually have great prices. Worth a look if you live close by...

I have to agree with Stan here.

After having a cheap bulk slip threads for no reason and drain my overflow into the stand, I will never use anything other than sch 80 bulkheads again.

Here are some pics I took for comparison. I paid around $16 a piece for these I believe, but it was an emergency and I didn't have time to shop around. Any plastic pipe supply house should have these in stock.
