I just sent in our list of members to IBC (International Betta Congress) to get our new Betta Chapter started.
Lone Star Bettas will have our first Official meeting on September 10th at 2:00 p.m. in Arlington, Texas (site to be determined).
We are looking for someplace to eat and socialize (meet and greet) for about an hr then get down to business.
If anyone has any suggestions on a place in Arlington that is not to expensive to eat, and is pretty quite or has a separate "meeting" room...that would be great.

I'm interested.
Have you checked in to a place like Pappasito's? They usually have meeting rooms.

Not trying to step on anyone's toes but isn't there already a local Betta club?
Aren't they the ones who meet (or used to meet) at a CiCis in Arlington/Grand Prairie area?

I know Gerald Griffin too. I think he's on the chair of ibc-smp. I think he got all the species of wild betta available except maybe 1 or 2. I once saw his rajas that were 7 inches! Imagine a betta that size...
You are mike right? I use to go to okaa meeting but I've moved down here to tx.

Haha yes Gerald is a betta freak, in a good way of course. I got the rajas from him a while back in one of the okaa fall auction, and he was even nice enough to give me an extra pair when one of mine jumped out of the tank and go carpet surfing. I also got another big group of betta rajas from esther (probably also comes from Gerald) I think 2 years ago? Nice betta, grow huge, most people that come over was like ... wow that is a betta? :D:D:D

I house my females together and keep one male at a time in his own 3 gallon refuge, but the females have enough territory space and free space to stay out of trouble (48"x12"x5" of water in a paludarium). If my fry develop successfully from the last spawn I'll be glad to hook you up with as many as you want to get started, but I do not keep records or anything like that; they're just "bettas" and from there either crown-tails or delta-tails.

If you have only males...then you have "little" tanks all over the place :(. I use the 4x4x8 beanies (well switching to...have been using 32 oz mason jars). The beanies "stack" nicely next to each other. I'm up to about 26 beanies so far (no fish...dang males either ate the eggs, or scared "crap-less"
of the girls)...keeping this PG rated :D
I kept my girls in a planted 75g (about 15/20 of them at a time)...there were nipped fins, but no major damage.
The group will eventually be offering a breeding pair/trio if available (can't really choose color or tail type) to any new member. We have lots of ideas too, but some will take time to get going.
If you have any questions and you have Face Book, our Face Book Page is: http://www.facebook.com/groups/181187708614862/?ap=1 (if I did that right)... Lone Star Bettas Our Websites are not up yet....sry :(

Lone Star Bettas is now an OFFICIAL IBC Chapter (as of last night).
We are still looking for a location for the September 10th meeting.
I'll continue to update on the meeting as it gets closer.

A friend of mine works at NizzaPizza (park row and cooper)across the street from arlington high. He said the manager was interested in hosting meetings. If you call there and ask for Jennifer you should be good. Its a private owned pizzaria so there is no board to deal with and I believe they host a few hobby club groups meetings.
