K guys who know their africans, I need your help. I am stocking a friend's 55 gallon african tank for her. probly going to be a tang tank. Can y'all name several fish that would be okay together in that tank. LFS always have african's mixed up and I am not good enough to ID them when I see them for the most part, so if I know a list of names that will work I can look on the tank for them :) Thanks in advance guys.

Go talk to Dane.
Is the tank cycled?

If not, I'd start with 4 Daf Brichardi.

If it is cycled...
I'd start with 2 daf brichardi,
Neolamprologus sexfasciatus (Gold),
Neolamprologus tretocephalus,
Variabilichromis moori (Lamp Moori),
Neolamprologus leleupi,
altolamp.White or black calvis- gold compressiceps,
you could always throw in some julies, shellies

I actually just got of the phone with Dane, he has all these instock.

Leleupi and shellies are not a ideal combination. There are a few people who talk about the Leleupi killing the female shellies while protecting their young in the shell.

Just a FYI.

i had my shellies in with my leleupi...
never had a problem, but I could see it being a problem once they are sexually mature.

Mine were still young when they were together.

By what I've seen and done in the past is that mixing fish are case by case proposition...
sometime things work and sometimes they do not.

Now my luluepi stays in the holey rock most of the time.

my luluepi hid 24/7 while my shellies (Lamprologus' stappersii) ran the show- They kept the Calvus, Brichardi and luluepi hidden all the time. Not the best tank I've ever had- gorgeous fish- but not a good environment to watch.

I have to agree with chris. I still have the shellies he is talking about and they live alone in their own tank. They will run the show for sure! Once alone they are an auesome little fish and they breed like rabits.
