I have 4 Sailfin Mollies, the 2 Pearl Whites are fine. Cremesicle Lyretail had babies about a month ago, then got basically dull colored over her back. Sounds dumb, but it is like the scales are thickened? Not fungal, acting normal, etc. Now I noticed the Big Black/Org Male Sailfin is losing his color? He has always been very vibrant, and now his orange is going away? Like the color is transparent? No lesions, red streaks, etc? I am baffled, any ideas?
I moved them to quarantine tank. Have just some guppy fry, pair of guppies and 3 angels in the tank. 40 g tank, water tested fine. Did water change, but didn't want to treat til I knew what I was dealing with?
I really like the Male Sailfin, he is a hybrid color- very striking, never seen one like him. Black Fins, Orange Pearlyscales.
Any ideas?

What are you feeding them?

Yeah...I noticed a big color loss when I tried to go with a cheaper food. Tetramin has always been good to me.

you might try that and maybe vary their diet. Give them a treat :)

Feeding Tetramin, and Frozen Brine, and Blackworm as treats. Anything else I should be feeding? I got some Topfin Guppy Diet at Petsmart, but I don't like it cheap food. Dogs like it... gives the old one gas tho.

Add some veggies. I feed mine frozen spinach and frozen cubes called Emerald Entree plus Ocean Nutrition Community Formula flakes.
Stress can also make their colors dull and stress can be anything from water parameters to water movement to who knows what. Kinda doubt that's the problem here since there's more than one showing the same problem.
Try the diet change and see if that helps. Keep us posted!

Thanks all, never thought of the veggies. How do I feed the frozen spinach? Just little chunks? Sorry to sound so dumb, never feed them that. Feed frozen peas to the fish in Hawaii in the Ocean, but didn't think of aquarium fish. Does Spirulina work at all? I want to make sure nothing else happens, as 4 of my Angels from Rey are in the aquarium. They are fine. Let me see if I can get a good picture, maybe that would help.

Spirulina would be a great addition. All I do when I give them spinach is scrape some off the frozen chunk with a table knife. They love it! They didn't care for peas. Picky things!

All of my fish are on Spirulina. Well not the puffers but everyone else is.
