I would put some regular dither fish in, such as neons, etc. Either that, or one Oscar.

Definitely African Tiger Fish. It will really bring home the message to the girls that when you tell them to keep their hands out of the tank, you MEAN IT!!!
lellison
02-27-2008, 10:26 PM

B-E some help, be some help, B-E some help... (yes I'm a tard)
Well, do you want something kinna simple since it's the "girls' tank" or do you want to take on a bit of a challange (but still not too hard)?
bra8ndy8
02-28-2008, 02:18 PM
I was thinking about shellies........would they be ok in a 30........and what kind? What type of stats do they need?
AndrewH
02-28-2008, 02:23 PM
Cichlids are not my stong suite (ok not my suite at all), but I know Blake and Jarod both have some...
I'd recommend Rainbows along with Chris and Michelle, but they'd require a little more attention than cichlids (as in would do better with plants in the tank, etc.).
I liked Tanganyikan's- shellies and the smaller variety aren't the cheapest fish, or the easiest to find- good luck. They require similar numbers to your Malawi's. Higher PH.

Well Braylen and I went to Petsmart so she could pick out what she wanted.....she took the 30 gallon......put white gravel.....they were out of pink, so shes gunna mix it! she picked out hot pink, purple, and a white plant that glows in the dark!! so the fish can see! she also picked out 2 deco pieces....that match of course! I was pretty proud for a 3 yr old! On to the fishies..........she loved the guppies! so we picked up 5 of EVERY color....30 in total, 2 otos....and a blue mystery snail (she thinks is a crab, and i'm not arguing!!) as girly as the tank is.....its pretty cute!! And she loves her fishies!!
supersmirky
03-03-2008, 09:19 AM
Wow...$90 in guppies!!! That's cute she likes fishies. That tank will definitely have some color and movement. Very good!
bra8ndy8
03-03-2008, 11:39 AM

lellison
03-04-2008, 01:39 PM

LOL, I was thinking about putting up a "fun" tank with all kinds of weird stuff in it to get the girls interested in the fish (well more of keep them interested).
Sounds like she did an awesome decoration job!!! I'd love to see some pics when you get a chance. ;)
bra8ndy8
03-04-2008, 03:00 PM

Walmart is selling colored sand- They had green, pink, purple and a couple other colors. It's a crayola product and I didn't see any toxic warnings on it- so for you folks after an interesting look- check em out.

03-04-2008, 07:20 PM

lellison
03-04-2008, 08:25 PM
I've never had a problem with it. Sorry to hear that though. :( If you need a little pick-me-up, I almost have enough snails to make a trip for your loaches :)

i'm certainly sorry to hear about yalls fish...
but its kinda wrong to speak of your dead fish and someone's family member that has recently passed in the same sentence.
I know yall aren't "actually" comparing the two, but still...
tsunderl
03-04-2008, 10:15 PM
I didn't mean anything near a comparison between the two and apologize if anybody takes it as such. I was just pointing out that today's been a downer on the forum after I read Brandy's post.
Again, sorry. Think I'll go until this passes over.
lellison
03-04-2008, 10:32 PM
I didn't see it that way at all. I just saw it as a statement of bad news all around on the forum tonight. I wouldn't worry about it. Just pray for everyone, that's the best thing you can do.
bra8ndy8
03-04-2008, 11:23 PM
i'm sorry to...I never meant to compare the two!

03-05-2008, 01:44 AM

FYI, you can put a pre filter sponge over the intake for any filter to prevent loosing fry.
