Since my account privledges will not let me post this under "Just for Pets" I will post it here.

Just for pets got in about 100 bumble bee shrimp. I went yesterday and got about 10 of these guys....really nice looking shrimp!

Sweet!

Did you put them in your 20?

YEs.....I certainly need pics..hhahaha

They indeed went into my 20 gallon planted. They look real good against the black substrate. My bamboo shrimp and the bumblee shrimp and the cherry shrimp all leave each other alone. Nice happy shrimp!

Awesome!

I have the darnest time getting clear pics of my shrimp. Maybe I should have another photo shoot this week (the last one I took over 200 pictures and got 0 I could post).

Supposedly the bumblebee and cherries will interbreed, heads up.

oh...now that's really cool! It would be interesting to see how they come out!! haha..>>Maybe I should get a sponge filter so in case they have little babies, they don't get sucked up!!

Yeah, I have sponge filters on all of my intakes.

This type as it doesn't get clogged as easy...

Mine are white, but have the same "larger" holes as these. They're made for a sump overflow prefilter.

Yeah..good idea. Where can I pick these up??

My LFS had them for $2 each or something along those lines. Really cheap and I have two. One on the intake and one already clean waiting to go on. When the one on the intake gets dirty/clogged I take it off and put the new one on then clean the orginal one for next time. Works great.

I was using these sponge filter types, but they get clogged really quickly ;) so I changed to the overflow prefilters with great results.

The sponge helped with the settling of the tank...

But not practical for everyday use...

Here's my prefilter on the left...

Sponge filters are great for me! But, I use them in the Discus tanks... I just rinse them out with every water change. As that happens every other day, they never get clogged. I really like the finer sponges as they pick up more funk!

Yeah, if I cleaned 'em every other day it probably would work great, but I'm not cleaning my tanks more than once a year (j/k) once a week or two.

WOW Andrew... you missed it. I said Discus tanks....

No, I saw that you said Discus tanks. I know that's why you clean the filter every other day instead of doing like me of once a week or so ;)

*sigh* Ok, Mr Curious. :brandy:

I just thought you'd be interested in the fact that I now have 2 Discus tanks.

Those shrimp sure were pretty...but holy hell, every single one died!! Just my bamboo and cherries left. @_@

Ouch!!!

What do you use for water conditioning during water changes?

I'm starting to think these mini-shrimp are more sensitive than I originally thought.

Man..no kidding. I hadn't done a water change on that tank for a while given the problem you had when you had your shrimp. When I DO a water change, I use just some Stress coat with choloramine and chlorine remover.

My bamboo seems fine along with the 2 cherries. I wouldn't doubt if I get home today and have both cherries dead. That was $30 out the window on those shrimp.

:) my last order was almost $80.

I'm starting to think there must be something specal about keeping 'em alive (few water changes, well established tank, lots of plants that are well established, etc...)

hmm....okay...not all at a loss. Found 2 bumblebees and 1 cherry. Guess there is a shred of my money spent left afterall

Yeah...I would guess so...but you have kept shrimp for a long time and I don't think you ever had a problem. Wow..$80!! I hope you get that shipment to live! Then we can all help you make back your money by buying your little shrimpies when they breed! :D

Let me rephrase that... my last order that I lost 90%+ was $80  No biggie I guess (live and learn), that just means it'll take longer for me to make my money back!

Yeah, before I didn't have any problems at all, but then again I never put chemicals into the tank either.

Yeah, once I can get the tank established and keeping shrimp alive, I'll give anyone on the box the "Red shrimp hook up" (or whatever color I have at the time) :D
