The first tiger oscar we got died the first day we got him, we got home and there he was, floating in the water but he only had a head, we took him back and got a new one after we took the dead one back to the pet store and got him. Our veeeery aggressive cichlid was in "time out" with our turtles for 2 days and our tiger oscar was fine, so we put our cichlid back in the tank and sure enough we got home and our tiger oscars scales were chewed off his sides and more than half his tail was gone and so were his fins! I was so mad! The cichlid kept attacing him so we took him out and put him in a little tank and he sat there with his head facing the bottom and in the morning he was dead! We are putting the cichlid back in the turtle tank and using our 14 day guaruntee AGAIN and getting a new one! It was all my fault... i had to put the cichlid back in cause i was sorry for him! No doubt he killed both of our tiger oscars!:twist:

That sucks! Well, you might think about getting rid of that particular cichlid! I have had females killed by some males in the past, so I know how frustrating that can be.

oscars are not agressive enough to be in a tank with most africans.
Even if the african is much smaller...they will nip the fins until there is nothing left.
most africans need to be with other africans.
chalk it up as a learning experience and move on.

also.......u can either have 1 oscar, or 6! they don't do good together if not in large groups....also oscars need 55 gallons of water a piece. I had two Oscars together in my 100 gallon since they were 2 inches, they grew up to around 6-7 inches and one of the oscars had brutally beat the other one to death. they are very docile fish until they reach sexual maturity.....

I just read up on this little guy and what a bully! Seems they have no problem taking out anything that moves. I don't think I'll be getting one.

Very aggressive fish. As a matter of fact, I consider them to be one of the most aggressive Mbuna in captivity.
