Hi I'm new here! Wanted to say howdy first!

Well, my pair of Jags finaly spawned. I've had them both for 2 years and nothing! I did all my weekly water changes with out fail, and recently my new baby developed some problems and I was not able to care for my fish they way I thought they should. So I did not change the water for like 3 weeks, and low a behold they spawned.

I remove the other fish ( 200 G with Jags and africans ((long story)). I put the africans in their own tank after I got them a new filter. And I'll be it nearly all the fry hatched. The parents were awesome and it was a great thing for my daughters to see.

Well the fry are like 4 or 5 weeks old and I moved nearly 400 fry into a 45G, and left nearly 100 with the parents. The fry are doing great, But I dont want all my tanks to be fry tanks....and I can see no other way to let them grow but to get rid of my other stuff.

At what size do most folks buy fry...and do y'all know of any LFS that may purchase some of them?
Here is a brief explanation of what I've got:

200g Jag pair (wet dry filter eats fry thats why I moved them:mad:)
100 g africans
45g fry
75 community/planted
30g Toads

Thanks for any help!

Hello and welcome. Head on over to the Introductions so everyone can catch your post and welcome you!

Congrats on the fry. That is the only thing about it, you get them and then realize they take over the world! I'm afraid I am not sure what size you could sell them at. Local fish keepers will buy them at a smaller size than LFS

Also, I am sorry to hear about your baby. Is everything okay now?

Welcome to the site.

I know there are a couple of LFS that will take them as fry but not sure that they will give you anything for them until they have some size on them.

My baby will have to have another operation in about 6 more weeks, then she should be fine....it is a long and complicated story about a birth defect in her large intestine (colon).

Well I think I will keep them a bit to get some size, so I moved all my africans into the 200 with the Jags. They are all doing fine, and I'm gonna clean out my 100 and then put all the baby jags in there. I also have about 30 african fry in with the jag fry and they are already getting pissy in the 45 g.

My house has gone mad with baby fish. Inever wanted to raise fry, I was happy just buying fish.

The pain in the butt thing i all fish stores are like an hour away. I keep thinking I'm supposed to loose some fry.... I left like 100 with the parents and the african can't pick them off.

I do thank y'all....if u hear of anyone wanting a few jags sesnd them my way! LOL

Well I hope the surgery goes well and that your little girl is off to a good start. I will pray for her and your family. And if I catch wind of anyone wanting jags I will send them to you!

Welcome TM! Sounds like you have a bad case of MTS,aka multi-tank syndrome! I highly recommend posting them on craigslist like RR suggested. Could you post a photo or two?

I thank you all for your thoughts and payers! We need it!

I have more tanks than you can shake a stick at and I'll be moving the fry into the 100 tonight if I have the time!

Caddo Mills it just west of Greenville, and just north of Royce City. I'm not far from I30. We boast a population of 1,160! LOL

I think I will try Craigs list. I really wanted to sell the whole bunch to a supplier or someone crazy enought to want all of them. I dont want 500 people comming to my home and only leaving with one fish!

I've contacted a few LFS to try to get their suppliers #'s but they will not give me that info. They said suppliers would not be interested in purchasing from an individual.

This almost sucks, I really do not want to feed them to my other fish, mainly because they are so healthy and I know how wonderfull they will be when they are grown.

I've even thought about purchasing a 400 or 500 gal horse watering tank and sticking it in the back yard for the summer in the shade. I think I could raise them in that with proper filtration????

What do ya think of that?

Thanks again!
I will try to get a good pic of them with my cell phone.....opperative word is try LOL

This looks bad. Crappy cell phone, but the nice pic is of the daddy, Speck. That pic was taken about a year ago. He's a bit bigger now.
