I cull as fry when they there is something definately wrong - such a lab I culled yesterday which still had an egg sack when all it's siblings were fully developed.

Cull means to destroy inferior/deformed fish so they don't get out into the gene pool.

I cull them when I notice them.

I do the same. Occasionally I will grow something out so see what it becomes, but almost without fail, I am disappointed with the result.

Killifish has a very common problem with a swiming bladder, if just after hatched they do not get to water surface to inflate the swimming bladder with air, they will not swim freely, they will become a "belly slider". They stay all the time at the botton and to feed they just dart to surface to grab food and just sink to the botton. This kind of "problem" is not genetic and the fish with this problem will produce health fry.
I usually do not cull these guys.
