don't see why not but if you'll shop around CL, i saw ponds for $50 and a 150 gal rubber tote at Tractor Supply was $60.....I think you can get a better bang for you buck if you shop around

What kind of pond are you trying to build? Not sure how long a kiddie pool would last. Like Tanya said, I have 100 gallon rubber maid tubs that I use as stock ponds for fish outside. I see them on craigslist from time to time for about $50...they'll last you a heck longer than the thin plastic kiddie pools.
Kiddie pools are too shallow & will get too hot to keep fish in them even with water lily pads covering the surface. Livestock tanks are a much better long term value & like others have suggested check CL for a used but make sure they don't leak. I think the plastic ponds like you get at a home hardware are not easy to install & get punctured fairly easily. Try to find a fiberglass pond if you don't go the stock tank route.

I have used the hard plastic? kiddie pools from Walmarts without any problems. I only use them in the summer and I keep mine on my covered front porch. I have never kept Koi but have kept rosy red minnows, guppies, platys, swordtails, mollies and crayfish with great success. I use a stand up filter that fits inside the pool and surround it with rocks to create a water fall effect. Simple, cheap and easy to set up.

They would work just fine for a pond but you are really ggoing to have to watch your temps or you might cook your fish. They are not very big so small species or very young fish should work just fine. They are great place to raise live foods during the summer.

I kept mine on a covered porch so it did not get very much direct sun. I also had a lot of plants for cover. I agree that the water would get very warm if there was a lot of direct sun.

However if anyone wants a kiddie pool for other uses try Petsmart or Babies R Us- under $10!!! Twenty five bucks at Walmart holy cow!

a 1000 gallons pool at walmart is like $100-$120, very cheap but they last about 1 and half years!
