they usually have good prices but the shipping is always what gets me!
Sometimes we have a group buy and we split the shipping cost.
Keep checking the Group Buy thread.

Yeah aquabid is like a forum for vendors / sellers to list what they have. Numerous individuals selling on one site. Like the others have said check the individual you want to buy froms feedback, will tell you all you need to know. Snookn21 is one of the vendors I have used many times. Hes pro and shipping is very reasonable.

aquabid is not really any different then buying it from a store online
I've bought several fish on there, but the shipping always hurts. It's always a good idea to ask your favorite LFS if they can special order a paticular fish you think you can ONLY find on Aquabid because they sometimes can. I found that out AFTER I bought and shipped in a fish I really wanted but thought I couldn't find locally because I'd never actually seen one; then, I saw the exact same thing swimming in my LFS's tank a couple weeks later. I could of saved about $75 in shipping.

I've used aquabid for years and never had any problem with any sellers. Obviously check feedback, but most of them are hobbiests and vendors who do their best to get you the fish alive.
Watch for free shipping deals. Priority shipping is generally inexpensive and small fish will ship fine this way.
Ask for breathing bags for shipping. Is the best way nowadays for shipping. I sent 20+ pairs of Aphanius Mentos to Puerto Rico, using priority mail and breath bags, the shipping took 3 full days do arrive there and all fish get there alive.
Good luck.

I love Aquabid. You don't find my kind of fish in your average LFS, and when you come across a store that actually has killies, they really have no idea what they are talking about and usually have everything so screwed up they don't even get the name right. On Aquabid you can ask the seller questions, so you can find out what you need to before you ever risk anything. One thing you can be sure of is that your average breeder can answer a lot more questions than your average LFS employee.

I've been very satisfied buying off of aquabid. I always contact the seller before I place a bid to understand how much shipping is and whether I can combine orders for free under one shipping cost. Some of the folks are very good about doing that and when you calculate the cost of the fish including the shipping cost, I've found that it comes out cheaper than buying it locally here at and lfs. Keep in mind that it is with only some individuals, others try to make money off of shipping and I tend to stay away from those folks.

I prefer Paypal on sites like aquabid... they will protect you if anything happens with their resolution center
I noticed some sellers only take money orders...

Aquabid has worked well for me in the past. Check feedback though. Some of the prices on there are terribly high even before adding shipping, but generally you can find deals. I've had good experiences using priority mail even just using regular bags. I have had some shipments go 3 days and everything been fine using regular bags, o2, and bag buddies. The few bad shipments I got were due to USPS negligence, but were resolved by the seller without incident. If possible request that the box be shipped in a mail bin. I've never had the post office decline that request. Basically what it does is the box of fish is placed in a plastic bin for the entire journey. It is handled more carefully and has less chance of being dropped or crushed. I've only had losses on boxes that were damaged, even when they take 3 days they are ok if the box is intact. Of course that all depends on how well they were packed, but generally people do a great job of packaging. If the shipping quote comes back high you can do your own estimate through the USPS website. It probably won't do much good to call them on it, but at least you will know you are being taken advantage of before you bid.

I sell and buy on aquabid. Shipping is not bad, i am able to send fish priority for $15 and have never lost a fish. I feel like some sellers overcharge for shipping though.

I have bought fish from Aquabid quite a few times and would encourage others to do so. As folks have mentioned above, definitely check feedback and watch for shipping deals.
I never buy unless they post pictures and take PayPal.
One thing is important though - you must take great care acclimating fish that have been shipped in water that is perhaps very different from ours.

It can be cost prohibitive on some items due to the shipping charges. I agree with the poster who referred you to use paypal for the added protection/recourse.
