rGot this little juvenile guy, doesn't appear to be what I bought him as. Did you get them at Petsmart?
I went into a Petsmart at 121 and Josey today and they had 6-7 of these... I know the store manager (Adam) and he asked me if I knew what they were. I told him he (or his dept manager) should know, as the bags are labeled when they come in.
Knowing how Petsmart works with their demographic test stores and their Limited Time Fish, my guess is it's a Ram of some sort.... Possibly a Bolivian. This was the last week of this test group and new Limited Time Fish will be in select stores in the next week or so.
On a related note, I'm sure we will see Discus entered into this program at some point in the distant future.

welll, it might be a juvie JD since most petsmart keep their jack dempseys with convicts. Its very easy for an employee to mess up when netting the fish for you.

Its a juvenile Gold Saum (Green Terror family). There are lots running around that are hybrids between the gold saum and blue acara and yours could be one since its thick like a blue acara but has the gold edge on the tail.
If its pure- the new scientific name is Andinoacara aequinoctialis. Used to be known as Aequidens rivulatus until they changed the genus and broke the 'Green Terror' group up into a few species.

I agree with Grey on this one. There is no JD in this fish at all.

Believe what you want to believe, but thats definitely a fish from the old Aequidens genus (now Andinoacara). The gold edge on the tail is not found in any Central American fish so all of the Central American fish that people are naming are incorrect.
Like I said above-its probably the hybrid between GT and Blue Acara based on shape. Also its likely since you got it at Petsmart-lots of cheap transshipped garbage found there. Regardless, its probably going to grow up to be pretty as both species in that hybrid are nice.

No, looks nothing like him. This one is very quick, and stops on a dime. Someone said Ram earlier, and that's exactly how it moves.

Thanks for the help fishman760 I was just trying to pick up a nice little convict and I guess they gave me this guy instead.

Got some better pics, and he's colored up quite a bit since. You can really see the gold in his tail now.

I'll take that bet. I'll pm you my address so you can bring your set up over. :)
The first pic is a JD, the second is a GT (Gold Saum)- they dont look alike. Google the two fish and see for yourself.

I think the give away between the 2 is the gold on the tail and fins.
