I broke a clip on the impeller retainer plate thingy...

I had it jerry rigged, but today the jerry rig has given way...and the filter is rendered useless.

2 questions:
1. Does anyone have a fluval 305 or 405 laying around that I can barrow for a day or 2?

2. How long can the bio culture stay alive since it is still submerged WITHOUT water flow?

have an old air pump, air stone and bucket? a little bubbler might help keep it alive while you fix your cannister.

To answer your question...

The bacteria will die off pretty quick without flow from my understanding, which is why the entire tank isn't covered in it (no flow - mainly higher levels of O2).

I had my XP3 down for 2 days and figured everything would be gone but once I got it up and running I never saw a spike so I am assuming everything was alive and kicking.

Someone said it before that the bacteria is not as fragile as we sometimes make it out to be and I think they are correct.
