Wouldn't crushing spirulina wafers do the trick? Would be much cheaper

****I am curious,.. if and when you have the time, if you might be so kind to post about home grown spirulina, how to go about this... and what the benefits are as I have heard you are a big proponent of doing so.***

We are having an algae growing contest on Tropheus Fanatics, so please join us or we can even have one here. I am a big proponent of promoting algae grazing for your Tropheus. When I observed Tropheus in the wild, they were continuously feeding on the algae on the rocks. This algae is really just a light green slime on the rocks, to simulate this in my tanks I like to encourage the growth of algae by adding Spirulina Powder. You can get this at any health food store. The jar is usually labeled at 100% Spirulina Powder, it may be loose or in capsules, it does not work if it is in Tablet form. You add this to your Tropheus tank, and leave your lights on 24/7 for a few weeks, and hopefully you can get the algae to grow faster then your group can eat it. If you can't then you get algae growing on rocks, pvc, etc., in other tanks and rotate them to your Tropheus tanks.

I think that promoting grazing lessens aggressions, provides a natural behavior, and is an excellent addition to the Tropheus diet.

this thread is from trophs.com ,which made me look for it .

you dont need to seed with spirulina powder, if you leave the lights on 24/7 for a few weeks you will have plenty of algae.

Kens fish has it as well, and its a little cheaper, but the quality is not there the kens fish flakes are tiny and hard for the fish to get a handle on.

I got some from Kens fish and they were not the same... looked more like dried up. The flakes were about the same that I had got from there before.
