Hi all,

I've got some black neon tetras in 75 gallon tank
that I can't catch. I have 2 giant sword plants and
some wysteria in this tank, and I don't want to destroy the
landscape trying to catch these guys. THey need to be
moved to a 29 gallon hospital tank as they seem to
have ick, and I don't want to medicate my display tank.

Any ideas on the best way to catch these little dudes?

Any help would be appreciated.

get 1 big net and a small net and chase them around till you catch them, a plexiglass tank divider comes in handy also

Don't catch them......crank the heater up to 85.....and add aquarium salt.....5 days ick is gone!

Brandy cranking up the heat and adding salt can really hurt plants!

LOL

Two nets and a lot of time and patience is the best answer.

Drain the tank to about 3 inches... and use the 2 net method.

yep, 2 nets and the key with small spry fish like that is to move slow. Or atleast that is what I have found.

oh and if you come up from under them, its normally easier.

My method is to chase the little buggers around the tank (or overflow box) for an hour, get fustrated, and let hubby take over. Five minutes later, the fish is caught! http://www.pushupstairs.com/images/emoticon/extra3/icon_head222.gif

lol, true most of the time! You give them that "ugg, can't you see that if I can't do it, then you certainly can't, but go ahead and try, I'm so frustrated I need a break anyways look....followed byt the "oh s***, looks like you can do it" look.

take the electric cord from your powerlifter...cut the cords... separate the two cords...make sure to cut the tips off and expose the wires.... then place the cords back in the water.... fish are unconsious for about... LIFE TIME... no problems moving them over and no problems with the ick...

will not hurt the plants!

I think everyone should...cuz i did not give it toooo much thought.... but my being alive and able to eat fish is better than being dead with the fish!!!

When I was setting up the 180g I was messing with the Magdrive and how much water would flow back into the sump and would unplug the plug and put it back in.... my hands were a little wet and on time I grabbed the plug it grabbed me back.

Christine was looking at me like "Why did you make all that noise..." Getting shocked is never fun....

I agree...
110 is not friendly at all!

I had a copper taste in my mouth for hours.

I got a little taste of 240V once, yup that's all it took before I left it alone forever more ;). Problem isn't the voltage, it's the amperage... 0.7 amps across your heart is all it takes to knock out your lights for good.

How'd the fish catchin' go?

Another thought would be to temporarily take out the plants. They stay intact and aren't in the way.

could go the old telephone magneto route, that would make them easy to catch
my grandpa used to have one

I work with 480 3 phase every day.
Been bit a time or 2, but like Andrew said it is not the voltage, but the amperage that gets ya.

Yeah, I'm scared of the 480/277 :D, respect it's authority < in Cartman's voice>

Been there done that... getting shocked sucks period....

My dad always thought it was a good lesson to teach "Go make sure the power is out yourself...." after a few times of seeing me not check... he started leaving it on. I guess I was careful enough a few times not to get bit but the first pocket knife I blew up I was a PO'ed Biggin....

I am pretty sure child protective services should have been called a few times I was growing up...

Sounds like my parents...life lessons sink in a little further if there is pain involved.

I've heard that works pretty darn good, but dunno for sure.

FishLips

At first I thought that 2-liter trap thing was a little fishy (haha),
but wow.

I've snared 5 of the 7 fish I've been after, the first victim
was the golden fatty, my algae eater that's been terrorizing all
my bigger fish. Ha, I'm surprised he fit through the little coke
bottle neck, but once he was in, he just kinda sat there looking
stunned. Hahaha.

Thanks yall for the advice. You guys are allright.

Fishlips.
