Hi,
I have 3 outdoor ponds, and would like to try having some of the plants in my aquarium. I have Anacharis, Cabomba, Moneywort, Vallisneria ( i think, tons of underwater grass, well rooted), and Parrot's Feather. They should do well in an aquarium, but I have been told you can't transfer them due to light differences? I seem to have a black thumb with the indoor plants.
Anyone have any ideas? I was going to move some into a 10 gallon, but when I have tried with the Cambomba and Anacharis it has just slowly died?
I also have many different water lilies if anyone needs some for a pond.
Thanks for any help. Amy

If someone can give me so ideas of how to set up indoor tank to acclimate the outdoor pond plants, I will have alot of extras. Really enjoy the pond, but not much activity going on this time of year. Plus we have a resident Heron that likes to eat my fish occassionally, and gets to be a pain.

Oh man...I heard that is a pain about outdoor ponds. That stinks because those fish add up to a lot of money. I'm not sure about acclimating those plants so I will leave this thread to those who are more advanced on the plants

I am guessing it would be easier if you waited till spring/summer so the temp difference is easier to deal with....maybe start with 50% pond water and clear things up.
Shoot the Heron....say the gun accidentally went off you thought it was a neighbor's kid or something....
Listen to ReyRey and get some piranhas.... that will teach that Heron.

I thought it would be cool to have an outdoor pond again until the snake stories. No way!!!!

Heron has stayed away since I went after him with a golf club. Uh,,,, I was practicing golf, and the heron got in the way:) (http://www.dfwfishbox.com/showthread.php?p=28647#)
Anyone have any tips on type of light that would work? I am going to try some in garage now, while they are still coming out of dormancy. I will be moving, so hate throwing all these plants away.

Amy!! hello... hope you are doing well...
don't through things like plants away... remembert he small guy like me!!!!
and YES. Pirahnas!!! YESSSSS No more BIRD!
I am not sure on the outdoor plants... think there is not much difference... other than you getting adequate lighting in your tank... I do know this much.... YOU ARE DEFINITELY going to have to get to the 3 watts per gallon stage... IF NOT more... on the lights..... so...I would definitely start there.... cuz standard lighting will just cause you fustration... LIKE me... my poos plants... all look like midgets!!!!
Where is Grey??? he is the one... he will help out!!!
