The name is Chester...I currently live in The Colony and am building a house off of 380 in Prosper. I have had fish tanks my entire life. Bred an array of different fish, and maintained both marine and fresh water aquariums. Currently I just have a nice simple 55 gallon with stand and canopy freshwater. Nothing special in it. My centerpiece fish is a x-large angel, and then I have neons and a few other smaller fish around him. When the new house is built I hope to talk my wife in to at least a 180 gallon aquarium...I have never gone that high before. We will see what happens ;)

Welcome to the site.
What are the plans for the 180 if it comes to fruition? What are the future plans for the 55?

Well Andrew right now all plans have been delayed because all money and efforts are going towards this house which should be complete in April. My wife and I will be first time home owners so you can imagine our stress level. Once we get established I want to change up my 55 gallon to a more natural setting...right now its fairly mardi gras ish which was fun for a while. Then I want to expand the lighting so I can grow some good plants. For stock I want to have an angel tank, discus tank, or maybe a oscar or cichlid tank, so it will be one of those.
The 180 will be marine...and I have no idea what I would put in there because I have never had a tank so large, so I am sure I will be like a child on Xmas day when I get to go shop for live rock and fish for that one.
Those are my dreams.....I will keep ya'll posted!:happydance:

I'd make the 55 a marine tank and save the big 180 for freshies.

wow this is the first I have heard of this...salt water has always been touted as the more experienced care required type setup. I know when I managed a small salt water aquarium there was more maintenence required...so what would ya'll do with 180 gallons of goodness, or what have you already done with that much water?
I have avoided the dark side (salt)- too much artificial hype. I prefer freshwater both for maintenance and enjoyment.
I would do a 180 freshwater in a heartbeat.
a 180 Malawi cichlid tank will offer as much beauty at 1/10th the cost and labor.
a Puffer tank would also be cool. :D

I have never really gotten in to the super exotic freshwater...or the puffers, but those tanks you guys posted look pretty amazing...I might take the suggestion of changing the 55 in to the darkside and if and when I get the 180+ doing some sort of freshwater exotic...I will need help on what type of stock to go with though, so I will be asking for help when that time comes...I just have this place in my heart for "the dark side"....but yea I imagine a 180 gallon would be a beast on the pocket book. Good advice peeps!
we will ALL be more than happy to make suggestions and what not-
I just managed to "throw together" a 90g malawi tank from fish others were trying to get rid of (free or nearly free)- it looks AWESOME and I didn't intend to set up another tank.

IMO on the 180 you can set up with the Frontosa, they are large, and calm as yet so regal looking fish.

Very nice, but I somewhat agree with the others but I would go fresh with the 55 and 180 ;) (lol, which shouldn't be surprising since this is a freshwater forums :D)
Brandy, XTC, Biggin, fishman, rolloffhill, & tsunderl all have 180 gallon tanks or larger. Not to mention all of the folks with 100 gallon tanks or larger, and the many people here with lots of experience dealing with different fish, plants, and tank setups/equipment. I'm sure we can help you answer any question you can come up with.
Most of the larger tanks will be cichlid tanks because of the equipment needed for a large planted tank. Not to say it can't be done - fishman has one awesome heavily planted 180. He has since changed it up, but he has lots of pictures before the change and it can be done.
And I do understand the stress of buying your first home. My wife and I just purchased out first house back in June '07.
