I was at Exotic Aquatics today and they have a freshwater stonefish. Creepy and cool looking all in one package. Check him out if you get a chance.

He's venomous. Not deadly poison, but not a walk in the park from what they told me. Even though he's venomous, it would still be hard to get stung because you pretty much have to be squeezing his head to get the stingers to inject poison. There wasn't a price and I was afraid to ask. He was in with some silver dollars and just kinda hung out. Didn't move much at all. They get some very cool fish in there that you don't see in other stores and I have to say, hands down, he's the coolest I've seen.

Actually they are not that uncommon. I think DNA has 2 of them right now, you just have to look for them.

They are ambush predators and will eat anything that gets close enough and will fit in their mouth.

Typically run $25 or less.

Is that what that little brown guy was that was in his own box inside the tank? He was pretty cute...but maybe that wasn't at EA that I saw it, but I know I saw one this past weekend somewhere. He was just laying there on the bottom of his little box and he didn't seem to be all that impressed with anything, lol.

JFP has the hairy puffer in a little box...

Typically when stores have these guys they are just sitting around on the bottom of a tank.... not sure if I have ever seen one move.

This guy wasn't in a box. He was being very still, just waiting for dinner to swim by.

I think you have to "train" them to eat other stuff from what I have heard but pretty much if someone gets to close it is not a good day for them.

[hijack]Hey Blake- I went into EA yesterday at lunch- they had (as far as I could tell) ONE Apisto- looked like a chocolate or an Acara (far left wall, 2nd row-5th column of tanks. It wasn't labeled at all on the crossbar and nothing written on the tank- the only kid workin had no idea what it was. Did you happen to see it? Great colors, but I'm not sure I want a chocolate.

I have not been in EA for a couple of weeks.

I was going to be in the area today so I was planning on stopping by.

If it is the fish I think you are talking about its not an Apisto but is a dwarf SA.

please do check him out- speak to someone wise about the ORDERING- Kris has told me there are a million Dwarfs that look almost exactly like that. But this guy had some good color- didn't look chocolate to me.

Hi there! I'm new here and jumped directly to this forum. I'll go over there and introduce myself and my tanks/fish shortly.

Where is EA and is it a pretty good fish/supply store? Thanks for the info!

Honestly I would pass on the fish and the store.

I tried my hand at them and I believe from a reputable dealer there were 15 ordered and 0 made it. Good sized fish all about 6-8".

I had 2 and they lasted a few weeks.

Neat fish but not enough known about them and too hard to identify the brackish/salt version and the fresh.
