I have recently setup up a protein skimmer and refugium and I am noticing that with ANY change in my sumps water level either due to evaporation or skimming my bubble level is constantly changing. It is becoming quite a task to micro manage my protein skimmer to ensure it is not overflowing, under flowing, or working properly. Is this just what comes with the territory? I have been considering creating an auto top off just to fight evaporation; any good ideas? I am currently running a Coralife Super Skimmer.
Thanks for your help.

its best to put it in a place that has a constant water level, such as the first section of your sump.

Section off your sump like cichlidkeeper said then make a bubble trap to keep all the microbubbles from getting spat back into your tank by your return pump.

That coralife is a good skimmer but i had the same issue with it. Itll skim really well then one day youll come home with water everywhere no matter what the water level.

All internal skimmers work best at between 6-8 inches constant water level. Your sump input area water level should be constant. Only the return area water level is not constant.

Thanks guys
I took your advice and modified my system to have a constant level for my protein skimmer.
