So... I finally found some of those packaged bulbs awhile back. Only two have sprouted. This is definitely the prettiest!

I bought another package of these today. Of the two bulbs, one sank the other is a floater :rolleyes1: I'm just hoping the one that sank will sprout. Too bad these packaged bulbs are such a crap shoot. These plants are so damn easy!

I bought some at Walmart over a month ago and they are either floating or on the bottom, not doing anything. I tried planting the one on the bottom but the fish or the circulation pulled it back up. Those look nice!

Holy shit batman....I have had mine for a couple weeks and not a single leaf poking through those bastards. The one you have looks like a lilly though. Lucky you. HOw long did it take for it to sprout?

I'm not SURE but, I think that if the bulbs float, they are no good. Sharon, you probably need to toss yours...if they've not sprouted in over a month.
They usually sprout within a week or two. After that...fergitit! Like I said, these things are really a crap shoot.

Very nice!
I tossed all 5-6 of the last batch I bought, but it was my fault. I bought them and waiting a few weeks before putting them into the tank (forgot I bought 'em, then lost 'em, then found 'em again).
I think I'll try again, but actually plant them as soon as I get them home this time.

The lilys can take up to 23+ days or more to sprout & floaters don't necesarily mean they are bad(but it's usually a good indicator. If they don't sprout, then take them out let them dry in a windowsill for a while then throw them back in. If you see any white stuff form on them after a week those are bad, throw them out.
I bought some at the fish gallery over a year ago all the ones I got from them were viable.

Curious a to where people are purchasing these from. All the ones that I bought sprouted on me - not one dud! On the back of my bulb package, it says "Guarantee (Proof Of Purchase), if any bulb fails to sprout within 3 weeks, return the bulb, Proof Of Purchase and Receipt To...."(left blank as I don't want to break forum rules by listing the address of the on-line supplier). Lol, I don't know about doing all of this as the cost of shipping the bulb would probably be as much as the cost of the bulb package, especially since I live in Canada and the supplier in the US. I do deal with the supplier in general over other plant purchases, so I wonder if a simple phone call and complaint would not bypass the requirements for replacement. Oh well, never had to do this, and when and if I do, we will see.

I have found my bulb packages at walmart. Don't believe I have seen one sprout yet. I may buy the ones Petco has and see if they are any better

I tried a pack from Petco and didn't get a single sprout.
I'd like to try again though, I'm jealous of that lily, might have to go and buy the plant though, lol.

Ya know, with all the money spent on these damn bulbs... why not just buy a live plant???? You can find these plants in some stores and certainly online. Probably be one hell of a lot cheaper in the long run!
Personally, I think we're just junkies for some "new and "exotic" oooooooooooooooh!

Does anyone know about these lillies? I'm curious if I can remove the plant from the bulb? I ask because I can see where new growth is trying to happen but, I kinda think the main plant is preventing that.
Ya... I'm clueless.

Hi, I believe that the plant you have is a Tiger Lotus

I have successfully grown these in my aquariums. You want to trim the leaf stem closest to the base of the bulb. You need to leave some leaves. There were a few times that I accidently ended up with a leafless bulb and it never produced any new leaves.

Well at the current charge from Wally World, you're looking at $3.99 per package with two bulbs. If both bulbs sprout you got 2 nice plants for $2 each ;). What do you think a LFS would charge for the plant in the picture in post #1? (I honestly don't know)

The lily bulbs I bought didn't produce (the ones I mentioned above about forgetting, then finding, etc.), but Kathy gave me a very nice, young red tiger lotus that is growing like mad (which I love, THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH). I also have a single stem with a leaf on it that seems to be doing ok (surviving). I really don't have much experience with this plant yet but from what I can tell the stems with leaves could produce new plants by themselves. My understanding is that they propagate by runners/lateral shoots but like Homer said, I wouldn't recommend removing all of the leaves. Just maybe one or two near the "new growth" area?
Andrew?? Didn't you plant some of these bulbs?
Yup, the Lilies and latest Aponogeton crispus I bought were duds (probably my fault). The original Aponogeton crispus were great, easy to grow plants.
