My female blue ghost seems to have paired up with a male gold angel :(

She paired up with this guy last week and both of them had claimed a corner.

I tried to put a piece of slate where they were hanging out. I guess it scared them and caused the pair to break. Today I topped off the tank with cold water and that triggered the female to pair up with the gold male and she already started laying eggs.
The eggs are probably going to end up being eaten by the plecos or the snails. I'm thinking about moving them to a seperate tank after this round of eggs.

Nice! I never could get my angels to lay eggs anywhere other than on the heater.

the eggs should be fine fr the plecos n snails. The parents should protect them. If anyone eats them it will more than likely be the parents.

Those are really young parents!
Congratulations and good luck!

well, those eggs didnt make it. All of them turned white and were eaten by the parents.
BUT!!! The lady has laid eggs once again!!!
I have a question. My tank has a few other angels, serpae and plecos. IF the eggs hatch, should I worry about the fry being eaten by them? What do I have to do if I want to grow them out separately?

Every fish in the tank will be trying to eat them and once they start freeswimming the parents won't be able to protect most of them. You'll need to move them to a small tank with a sponge filter and feed them like you did with the teensy babies you got from me.

Saw the eggs and the parents today, they are really great looking! I would suggest the removal of at least the Serpae as they were very voracious in tanks where I had young fry.

I know! The serpae are like mini-piranhas. I think it would be a lot easier to take the eggs out than try to catch the serpae out of the tank :p

well, the eggs vanished overnight. I think either the snails or the plecos got to them...

Good luck whit the next batch. Have you given any thoughts to giving the pair their own tank?

well, I dont know how often angels are supposed to lay eggs but mine decided to go at it again today. I moved the pair to their own tank so theres no risk of having the eggs eaten by others.

They may eat them?? I would leave the aquarium lights on 24/7 so the parents can protect them

well, cant do that with plants in the tank, and that'd be way too stressful on the parents.

well, after several rounds of egg laying, eggs turning white and eggs being eaten, the eggs have hatched!

thanks! No matter how many times I watch eggs hatch or fry being born, it's always a new experience and very exciting. Nature is pretty interesting :P

I've had a lot of luck with my silver angels since I started using a spawn rearing jar. I found it at angelsplus.com. (There's a video there too.)
I have a 50 gal (where the pair started out, but the clown loaches kept sneaking in at night and eating the entire spawn.)
Now, I have the pair in their own smaller tank and 2 spawn rearing jars in a 46 gal angelfish tank. Once they get big enough to not be eaten by their hungry siblings, I let them out of the jar into the 46 gal as a grow-out tank. It has been a lot of fun watching them develop from an egg to something that resembles the adult. I hope this helps you with your hobby, but be aware that your tank will fill up pretty quickly once you get it right. ;)
A local fish store was going to buy my fry once they were big enough to resell, but that location went out of business before I could sell them. Another location bought my first successful spawn, but didn't need any when the second spawn was ready. Now, I have approx 30-40 that are ready in the grow out tank and another batch in the jar that will be ready in another month or so.
Does anyone know of another LFS that will buy fish from a local hobbyist? The chain stores wouldn't buy from individuals, even for store credit. (I was getting about $2 per fish.)

You have extra tanks! I can set up a tank in the time it takes to put it on a stand/table, fill it with water, and transfer an established sponge or HOB filter from another tank, usually 20-30 minutes. I did this very thing last night when I brought home 16 synodontis petricola (http://www.cs.utexas.edu/%7Ereeber/aquarium/s_petricola.jpg) and needed a QT tank (I quarantine ALL new fish/inverts). With this in mind, I'd set up a 20h or 29g for the young breeding Angels. If you don't have extra seeded filters, start a few asap...
Good luck.... I"ll want some offspring..

lol, funny how i read this right after doing the exact same thing :P it wasnt really that I didnt have time, it should have been "I'm lazy" :D
My other pair just laid eggs so I'm setting up more tanks just in case I need to use them. I just need a couple more heaters -_-
