I bought it as a Sciaenochromis ahli at the pet village and i have had some people saying it is definitely not a S. ahli because very few were imported and the ones that were supposedly imported were mislabeled. What do you guys think?

That is correct. Sc. ahli is not the electric blue hap anymore. The electric blue hap has been known as Sc. fryeri since 1989 when the genus Sciaenochromis was revised. S. ahli actually kind of looks similar to S. fryeri, but it is never imported and certainly you would never find that fish anywhere but an importers tank as a contaminant. Wild S. fryeri are some of the most expensive fish to import due to their rarity (believe it or not the most common malawi haps in the hobby are usually rare and expensive in the lake). Your fish is Sc. fryeri - most likely pond bred and probably not pure given the spotting on the anal fin. The reason it was listed as S. ahli is because the farmer/wholesaler they bought it from is still calling it 'ahli' instead of fryeri-which is quite common. Sorry for the bad news.
