Is there any good place to get white substrate for my 90g African Cichlid tank at a good price? I looked at pool filter sand at HD but it's brown. I would like to put something white. Thanks!

For PH you could got with argonite or argonite max. You could mix it with 3m Color Quartz or go all Colorquartz.... but it will not help buffer the PH.

Color quartz is cheap $20lbs for 50lbs and it will cover your 90g....

Some PFS is white though I learned, try Leslie"s pool supply. I used blasting sand and it is white as well.

my PH out of the tap is around 7.4 and I've gotten to the point to where i don't adjust the ph any more.

The fish are breeding more now than they used too...

I use Leslies and it is very light colored. I plan on mixing it with CaribSea Aragonite Seaflor (I ordered 4 40lb bags from Petsmart - $26.99 ea and got free shipping) in my 225g Tang tank.

HD on Coit road has the white pool filter sand. It was $5 for 50 lbs. I have a bag I could give you for free if you want it.

Let me know what part of town you'll be in tomorrow as I'm interested in the extra bag of sand.

I ordered one of those 40lb Aragonite from Petsmarts, and was wondering if I need to get a bag of pool filter and mix it with the aragonite. My aquarium is 40" long and 18.5" wide, there will be a huge holey rock (21" x 5") in the center so I guess that area won't be covered with sand, but I will be putting an egg crate at the bottom so that would take some sand to fill.

I would think you will need to. I bought 100 lbs of PFS that I will mix with the 4 bags of Aragonite. Not sure if that is gonna be enough but should know this weekend. My footprint is 72"x24".

I've used Pavestone Pulverized limestone from home depot $5 for a 50lb bag. Just rise the shit out of it. I still have half a bag you can have to try if you want.

Anyone have any of the black 3m color quartz that they could sell me enough for a 55 gallon? I would buy from National Pool Tile Group but i doubt they are open on Sunday and i just got a 55 and really want to get it started cycling and set it up. Bought it from Just for pets gave me a good deal and i jumped on it. If so let me know if i may pick it up tomorrow, if not i can wait till Monday till i can stop by National pool tile group (i hope). Thanks

does 3m quartz raise or lower the pH?

Its ceramic coated quartz...
therefore its inert and will not buffer the water in any way.

does 3m quartz raise or lower the pH?
