:confuzeld:I do not know if maybe my other fish are eating the fry or maybe they are just not breeding. I have a tank that we have had for about 2 months and when we purchased our fish the lady told us that many of the females were pregnant. Now we have never seen any fry. We have guppies and mollies in a 55 gal with plenty of plants and such for them to hide in. We have not had any guppie or Molly fry. I was just wondering if maybe they are getting eaten before we see them.

Either they are being eaten or they are hiding, but chances are you have had some.

Last night I trimmed the plants in my planted tank and saw 10-15 fry.... I had not seen them before. Have not seen them since.

I agree with biggin... I know personal that I have a fry or two in my 110 gl...that I did not see for a couple of months.... and there they are! they hide well.. now...along that line.... they may hide very well...but if they are not being fed or have adequate food in the tank... then you do not seem them more than likely because they hide and die.... ..STARVE!! jk.......... but lack of food...lack of fish

What else is in the tank with them? Are there places for the fry to hide? I've watched a momma platy give birth, then immediately turn around and eat the newborn. It was alive for less than a second. The other fish will also follow a momma around and snatch up the babies. If you really want some to live, either move momma when she gets really big, or put in LOTS of hiding spots for babies. We lost about 3 batches of guppy fry to a baby angel just slightly bigger than dime size. He grew awful fast after that!

We have a Fluval304 with the intake sitting right above the gravel, we've found Molly and guppy babies in there before. Just hanging out and eating the stuff on the bottom, lol.

It is a 55 Gal with Guppies, Mollies and Platys. There are also some white clouds as well. There are several plants for them to hide in but we never see any fry. I have 2 guppies that are huge and are pregnant. I am not sure if I should move them to another tank . I really want the fry just not sure how to get them to stay alive . Moving tanks was the best why I could think of.

Moving tanks are good or you can get one of those nets that hang in the aquarium, if you hang them on the braceit works better then hanging them on the side.

Seems like I always get fish stuck behind them and kills them...

Also it seems like it would get more water flow

Keep a close watch on your fish, and as soon as you notice that a fat one is no longer fat, look for fry.

I have schnauzers and yorkies that I breed and sale. So if you ever have any vet questions just let me know I have been a vet tech for 6 years. And then we got our 4 tanks. a 55 gal, 2 29 gal, and a 25 gal.

hey Brandy- from another forum...interested?

Here's the story... we live out in the country where there are no leash laws and have no access to any animal control authorities. Our neighbors don't want to take any responsibility for their animals and we have no leverage to make them. Their unspayed and unneutered dogs have had puppies that they let wander the neighborhood. Our dogs are contained on our four acres by a wireless fence system which works flawlessly - for our dogs. The neighbor's dogs come and go as they please - which is fine for a while until our larger dogs feel threatened or something and they lay into the visiting dogs and tear them a new one. At first we tried to chase the visitors off until we realized that they were getting no care. They don't get much to eat and are covered in fleas and have never been bathed. To top it off, they're very sweet loving dogs that need someone's love and attention. My wife just wants to adopt them all, but they're all males and three of our dogs are males and won't allow another male dog in the back yard where they spend the night safe from coyotes - and we have more than enough animals already.

Yesterday we were talking with another neighbor who told us that the owner of the dogs doesn't want them. He said he wanted someone to shoot them. I guess that's why they let them wander the neighborhood. We have yet another neighbor that has a reputation for killing animals that aren't his. These dogs haven't made it to his property as of yet.

So we've decided that if we can find homes for them, we'll snatch them up, bathe and trim them and give them their shots. All we need is homes. I will say that I'm not sure that they're pure schnauzer, but mostly. Maybe if they had a schnauzer hair cut they'd look the part? The mother is definitely pure schnauzer. I'd estimate their age at about 9 months to a year. There are four of them.

That is f*cking sad, letting those poor dogs run loose like that and not taking care of them! We live out in the sticks, and like I said before, people must think we have money(wahahhaaaha!), because they like to dump them in front of our place. I love animals, but I have shot a few strays, one that ate a litter of our kittens because it was starving to death! A vet charges quite a bit to put down a sick stray, so if I cannot save them, we put them down or call the county. Too many people indiscriminately breed, and the poor animals wind up in the pound, or roaming the streets. Okay, I feel better now! Sorry!

Ummm NO!! I have enough hair cuts to do!! I have my Schnauzers inside.....I don't need another! Thanks though! But that does piss me off....people don't seem to understand that they are living animals that require a human to take care of them.......it's just sad!

Fish question- My husband noticed tonight that one of the black Molly females has what looks like a pouch on her underside behind her gills. She is acting fine and she is the only one in the tank like this. anyone have any idea? I have never seen one look like this.

Brandy- I got a white chocolate female that is 20 oz at 6 weeks. have any guess to what her weight might be grown.

ohh wow....that is tiny! My Tooter is 7 lbs, and I thought she was small!

Fish.....I would be afraid to leave her in there if she has a sore they will pick on her.

I do not see of any sore or anything abnormal. We have taken her out and she is on her own tank so we can keep a better eye on her
