You can still enjoy tropicals blooms even this late in the season if you cover your ponds. Their fragrance is trapped & as soon as I take a peek I can smell them. It'll be mostly purples & blues as they are the most cold tolerant.

Ooo! Those are very pretty!

Can you detail out the "covers" for us. Was going to build one for my garden, but grasshoppers and heat got it before I could (was going to use it all year long - heat and cold protection).

Appears to be 3M plastic over a PVC frame.

Any problems to report? How cold can these protect the ponds? Is summer storage for the covers a problem (can you take the PVC frame apart for storage or are they glued)?

No way to get pics of the fish as they hide among the plants.

Andrew--my ponds are wood & above ground. Galvanized 1/2 circle brackets are screwed to the sides & the PVC just slides into the brackets. Then cover with either 4 mil or 5 mil plastic sheeting, hold down with 1x2 strips screwed into the wood. I remove the plastic in late May as it usually will start to split/stress by then plus it is warm enough by then to uncover the plants. They survived all the snow we had this past winter, so it is a great way to keep the temps warmer. I do run a pump in them 24/7 during the winter to help prevent ice.

They are all tropicals. Hardies don't need the protection over the winter.
