Looking to see what I can get from HD or Lowes or something to setup CO2 in my tank.

Blake, I like what you have....was it easy to get and cheap?

I want to try that route first before getting a CO2 system at petsmart.

I notice a difference in the red plants(especially my lotus)....

With Swords, Java Fern and some of the other low light things not so much....

I have red ludwigia (sp) .....other than that, java fern, pellia, moss, anubias. My favorite plant is one I didn't buy but rather was thrown in the bag of the ones I did buy...I will have to take a picture for identity purposes.

I don't need explosion growth, but I would like it to do something. lol

Weekly water changes and trim the plants.... growth will happen. As long as the lights are good and there is some firts somewhere.

oh okay...so I can save the hassle of CO2 altogether then! = ) I just need to add ferts.....easy enough. With a sand bottom I can just add tabs I suppose

I have found root tabs make a nice difference.

It took my plants about a month before I saw a ton of growth...after that they grow like weeds.

From my understanding, the plants use the C (carbon) from the CO2. Ferts add C to the tank (as well as other things), so no CO2 required, at least for the low light plants. The high light plants might do good with CO2 and ferts.

Are you still planning to convert your 125 into a planted tank?

I wanted to. But silver dollars seem to eat plant life quickly. Mondo grass was doing good but with the addition of those silvers....it all became a mowed yard. I am setting up a 10 and 20 with plants.
