Victorian cichlid..

So i have some victorian cichlid hybrids and i have a female thats holding..How long do they hold their eggs for??

the male in those pictures is what mine looks like hes not a hybrid got him from txaquagardens along wit a female and the rest of the ones he gave me look like the silver ones with lines.....so im not quiet sure

My experience is that they will hold for about two or three weeks. Just keep watching her mouth. The fry will hatch inside her mouth and stay in for several days. You can see them if she gives you a good look inside the mouth or gills. Good luck. Make sure if you sell them or give them away that the person knows they are hybrids.

I seperated mine in an 8 gal bio orb, kept the fry in there for about two months until releasing them into a 50 gal tank. about 20 fry. They all did great....

snap a picture of them. im not shur but there have been a few post lately about victorian hybrids. if they came from howard they are pure. if i rember right he got them from me. xystichromis sp lake kyoga flamebacks some time ago, and may have been thru several hands. lake kyoga flamebacks are a great species to keep. and if they are producing can mean cash in your pocket.

victorians are mouth brooders and will hold eggs/fry for up till 21 days and watch over or brood them for about another week or two.

dont forget to feed the momma after she releases! No food until then(although I did have one try to eat while holding)
