This is an interesting article that Newbies, or anyone for that matter may find interesting as it discusses the relative advantages and disadvantages of different ways of "cycling" a tank to make it safe for fish. Interestingly, about a month ago when I was at my local pet store, a staff member in the aquarium section told me that the biggest issue he sees is people adding a bunch of fish to uncycled tanks which leads to many fish deaths. The store has a fish exchange policy. If the fish dies, you are required to bring the body and a sample of your aquarium water, so there is no doubt in my mind that what he is saying is true as he has likely seen many customer water samples indicating uncycled tanks as the cause of fish deaths.

Anyway, here is the article:

Hope members find it useful.

I was guilty of that when I was a kid. I would set-up the tank and then go buy the fish and plop them in. Tanks should come with instructions on how to cycle them before adding fish. Great article,Homer!
