Thanks Holy Rock of Texas for a great design for caves. I tried your design and after 2 weeks look what I got. The male has been fanning the eggs for 2 days.

Congrats on the eggs! I have three sets of new fry and now the LFABN big male is fanning some more! I may have to pull those horn-dog males out of the tanks!

thanks all, but there might be a problem. The eggs are gone after 3 days and the male is still fanning the cave with no signs of fry. I also see one egg in the tank and one lodged in the seem at the front of the cave. I divided the tank so that the other fish would not try to get to the eggs. Maybe they developed a fungus and he disposed of them. We'll see.

Hopefully they hatched and are hiding. They are very tiny. But if not then the adults will do it again. Good luck.

Good guess! They might not have fertilized properly and developed a fungus. The male might have then eaten them. The male gets better with practice. If he is fanning though, you might have a few in there? I bet you have more within a month.

In the last picture the male is not in the cave with the eggs so the other fish could have eaten the eggs or the babies. I wouldn't get discouraged because like east tx rn said the male gets better with practice.

The day before the eggs went missing I separated the other fish from the BN. Thanks for the encouragement.

IMHO, a good male is worth two females because they are the ones who take care of the eggs and babies. I had a big horn-dog male LFABN who was a super-producer and father that I wouldn't have sold for $300. Sadly, a rock fell over and killed him last year. Give your male some time, but if he continues to do the same, trade him out for a better male.

hahaha! I guess males are good for something, thanks again for the advise. I had put a different male and female together for months, no action! I tried these 2 and bingo! So I have a willing female now I need a responsible male. Good thing that they are just fish.

OK, I have an update. I tried a different pair. This time there looked to be 100 eggs, not just the few like the first pair had. The male fanned and fanned. Most of the eggs ended up in the tank. Only 2 fry could be seen in the cave as the became wigglers. I did see some wigglers in the tank on the sand. So far 6 have been counted after about 2 weeks. Here is a pic!

Congrats on the new fry! The male shouldn't allow the eggs to go anywhere! Don't worry, I bet this super-producer gets better with age!

NICE pics....nice caves, and as for where the fry went....the father carries them around on his nose, in the bristles......look close....they are GREAT fathers and protect the fry very well.
