Every year this type moth comes and breeds (I guess) right here. Last year on the garage. They are like that for awhile. I was wondering what kind they are. Never saw anything this big flying around must blend in and be out at night. On a tree you wouldn't notice them. :confuzeld:

Not sure what kind, but you have a pic of 2 of them there.
Looks like one of the numerous sphinx moth, or moths from the family "sphingidae" that are native to the area. It would take someone with more moth-knowledge than I to say which one exactly!

yes definitely sphinx moth, use to catch them by shining a light on a white cloth at night with a drop of honey on it

Very pretty! We went to Lowes today - they have Annuals and Perennials for 50% off - and got 13 pots of things including Lavender Lantana. While unloading only those few things, a Hummingbird Moth that was colored like a Bumble Bee came to one of those Lantanas and started sipping while we walked all around it. We loved it! Didn't have time to go get the camera, darn it!!
