So heres the thing I want to set up a triple shelf 33 gallon system, I want to get the dimensions Andrew got and then run XP1's on each... these will be my pleco breeders and hopefully the true begining of my master planI wil be picking brains left and right and calling on Karma points. Guys, i'm really stoked about this, and hopefully it will be done by the summer...

I learned in High School 10+ years ago on a Lincoln crackerbox.

Picked up Mig welding about 5 years ago.

I just went and measured mine- I have 9" from the top of the tank to the bottom of the upper shelf. No way I would I go any less than that after what I know now- even that is tight when you're trying to get in the tank. Adding water must be done with a python (no more quick buckets of water).

OR!! Stair step them by 6" inches, going back as you go higher. That would work nicely- then you could keep your 6" spread. AND it would be a more sturdy foundation with that top tank nearly 6' up.

Joel, post a link to those shelves you're going to use again.

Stair stepping the rack wouldn't be possible unless you build it from scratch. As far as I know he's planning on using an existing, pre-made shelving system.

The drawing above it a quick, crude sketch to get a concept and dimensions down. I really don't know the size of the shelves, so I don't know how they can and can't be arranged.

the stair step in similar to what Dane has at R2R. If you and Skipp are going to make these, this would be the best option IMHO. One advantage of the stair step is that you could possibly do away with the bottom level that is going to house the filters. The area behind the tanks on the lower level could be used to hide the filters.

Good luck.

I have used shelves from home depot and the InterMetro Shelving from Container Store to house multiple tanks.

The Intermetro shelves can hold 800 lbs a shelf, and you put some foam on the shelf to balance out the load.

well there is a wrench in the plans.....my new apartment is on the second floor. but the good news is that its bigger... more room to space tanks out..... so im now thinking on something that doesn't place so much weight in one area. I'm talking to my metro shelving guy tomorrow for more info on these shelves.

but i am keeping that triple system on the back burner for when i get another first floor apartment or house...
