misplacedsooner
12-31-2007, 11:55 AM
about 24 inches, he would go great in your 300 brandi, he doesnt seem to bother smaller fish, the only thing he has eaten is the giant danios cause they are top water bait. but i have cutteri and smaller cichlids in with him and he doesnt bother with them. your hubby needs a nice fish and would pay out the nose to get one this size...to you, the price of gas to get here!

HOw can you maintain all those tanks! I am very impressed. I don't have that many and spend way too much time screwing around with them.

misplacedsooner
01-02-2008, 09:42 AM
i keep telling myself im gonna downsize in number and just have larger tanks only, my goal is to keep only a couple of 55s and have that as my tiny tanks and 5 bigger tanks, so a total of 7-8.

It was hard...but it was what she would have wanted......she was a vegetable....and she would have smacked me if we left her that way! She is missed soooo much...and loved......and will be thought about daily.....I am sorry I didn't post about her. I just couldn't....it was toooo hard.....thanks for all the prayers....they are helping me breath!

he'll eat all your cichlids

misplacedsooner
01-03-2008, 10:52 PM
i cant promise he wont eat any but the only thing of mine he has eaten is the giant danios i had in there for targets for my cichlids. i have cutteri and smaller cichlids in there with him and he doesnt bother them..of coarse they move out of his way when he comes around too..they aint dumb.

I think when fish start to get that big food becomes more "if you get in my way I will eat you" kinda thing.

It does not seem like the big boys hunt as much.

misplacedsooner
01-04-2008, 10:11 AM
scott, yes, he does take some good size dumps. and he does seem content to wait for his food rather than hunt it. i wouldnt want to starve him though and see his hunting skillz. ive been lucky, alot of aros are picky eaters he eats what is offered. for his entertainment value i would keep a nice supply of giant danios for him to mess with.

Don't you keep your african at higher PH ? Arowana thrive in lower PH from 6-7 ish. As a matter of fact, they loooveee indian almond leaves water solutions that even lower their PH. My old old silver used to be very very skittish and when I mix some indian almond leaves (ketapang) leaves in the sump, PH dropped to about 6.0 and he was very very calm.

The larger the aro usually the calmer they get...but MAKE sure you have a closed lids with some kind of protection in the event that the aro decide to jump. They will try to jump and they can break through almost anything when they do.

I have kept 5 arowanas from jardini, lei, silvers and black....if you have any question on keeping them, I'll be glad to help...

can he turn around in that tank?

misplacedsooner
01-12-2008, 12:04 AM
no, he swam from one end to the other then stopped and hes been there every since :poke:lol. no, really he isnt in optimal quarters but as i said he was a rescue and i didnt want to put him with my dovii in the bigger tank so hes in a 125 for another month but he has no problems turning and getting around. as bendy as they are he could turn in a much tighter space if needed.

Usually there's nothing that Aro won't eat other than nori seaweed lol...

My previous aros ate mice, cricket, worms, beefheart, hot dog, shrimp, krill, and anything I put in there that has meat lol

i wonder about that too as im doing tank maintanance. so far so good. i took my eye off him and he swam between the front glass and my arm, kinda startled me at first but made me feel more comfortable with him. i had to pet him and tell him he was a good boy!
