Figure 8 Puffer Fish question

I hope this is correct section for a puffer question.
To any who have them including JasonM.
I understand they need snails to file down their "beaks".
Where do you get the snails as id hate to use Mystery snails.
Any Ideas? im thinking of getting one or two.

u can get snails from the plant tanks at fish gallery. If u do get figure 8's realize that they are brackish. i have had one and she was alot of fun. But i prefer my green spots as they are more active. And DO NOT buy puffers from Dallas North. they are ALWAYS sick. i have bought about 6 puffs from them and i only had one survive for more than a week. they are so full of parasites when they get them that even with worming i couldnt get them clean. i saved one baby green spot who i still have but he was the exception.

Cool thanks for the info. I read that the spotted get bigger as opposed to the fig 8's.would you agree or happen to know?

Wetspot has healthy puffers. I got a Abei puffer from them several months ago, and it is still doing great. I feed it blood worms, snails and baby marbled crays. I have fed ghost shrimp, but they are a little faster than the crays. Puffers are definetly cool fish.

Just do a call out for Rams Horn, Melasian Trumpet and Pond snails under the wanted section. You will get a ton of them for free. I have to cull my planted tanks weekly for them and feed them to the Cichlids. I may have a bunch of MLS to give you after this weekend.
