I have a african mbuna 180. I am looking for a gentle giant in there that would not eat or kill my africans. Nothing too big. Maybe 12 - 14". I'm guessing the contrast in size would be pretty cool. What do you guys think? Any ideas or suggestions?

General rule is typically if it can fit in a mouth it well may likely be in there at some point...

Best I would think you might be able to go for would be a large pleco. A 12+ inch L190ish would be pretty darn cool...

Amphilophus robertsoni, Blue Sifter gets to about 10-12" not a super aggressive fish and should have some character as well.

I've actually never heard of them as more than 8 inches. Might work, but I would look for one that was already grown out to where you wanted it to make sure it didn't only grow to 8 inches or so...

I might know someone who is trying to find a home for a 24" pleco.

How about C.Moorii (Malawi Blue Dolphin)...they are mild mannered fish and look pretty too...but they dont hit the 12" mark....

Yeah - C. moorii would grow to more like 10...and very slowly - lol! They can be more aggression than you might believe. ;)

You are probably right I have only seen them in other peoples tanks an know they are pretty well mannered. I thought I have seen some males up around the 10 inch mark but that could be due to my poor ability to measure, hence why I am not a carpenter. ha ha.

Not a common fish to find, you probably are looking at online order or something. I have only seen 2 in my lifetime. But I am sure some of the more experinced folks on the site have come across them at some point. I would ask around never hurts.

How about a nice Frontosa? I'll be moving some med size Kigomas in the near future. They are about 5-7" right now.

Pearsei-the only time I noticed any aggression it was the Azures' fault...the Pearsei kept swiming through his spawning site and just ticked the Azures off. This guy eventually broke 11 inches before I traded him away.

Amph robertsoni will get dominated by most malawi cichlids (exception is a tank full of peacocks). Best bet is a Vieja spp. The pearsei/bocourti option is good too.

If you are looking for robertsoni-I can ship them to you. Look in the vendor forum under Wetspotcx.

I've got two bocourti...they are posers, push around a little oscar and flee in terror from a tiny firemouth and momma festea (the latter isn't a surprise).
